Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart opened his show last night by celebrating the U.S. withdrawal from Iraq's cities. He noted that our troops still occupy the non-urban areas, home to what one would call the bridge-and-tunnel crowd had the bridges and tunnels not been blown up. He showed footage of Americans giving Iraqis back the keys to their own cities and asked, "Can we do that?"

He then moved on to the meat of the show, slamming Dick Cheney for complaining about a withdrawal timeline his own administration had created. Stewart opened this segment by conflating Cheney and Bin Laden, introducing the ex-VP's complaints by saying:

"As you know, the dark figure whose influence in that region has brought so much pain, had to then release one of his ominous and now ubiquitous audio tapes."

Stewart then noted that Cheney's most recent comments are a symptom of Stage 4 Balzheimers disease, meaning his nuts are now the size of baby elephants'.

While the Democrats certainly leave alot to be desired .The Republican Party has reduced itself to an cast of cartoon characters who are apparently the masters of rampant adultry and super human hypocrisy.

thankfully, jon stewart et al, continues to hit the nail on the head.
were it not for the BBC news, AND the daily show;
there would literally be NO FREE PRESS or fourth estate in this country!
and no, as long as cheney puts himself out there, the crypt keeper is ripe for the pickings.
he must like it.

BBC news, Christian Science Monitor, The Colbert Report and Jon Stewart. All else is Republican propaganda.

How about some positive news for once.

Cheney picking is getting to be pretty old stuff.

How about something about the economy and the unemployment that will
probably never get much better.
Surely Stewart can find some news and sarcasm about these things.

The troops are in line with what the Bush Adm. set up befor this Adm. got into office. Where is the promise that the troops would all be home.
Just another thing that the current Adm. is finding out that everything is not so cut and dried the way they thought.

Ah Dude! Cheney is why the economy is a mess. Cheney picking will be relevant as long as it takes to clean up his mess. he actually should be hung in the town square or from the top of the white house.

Cheney in a real prison. His wife and daughters working as waitresses in a coffee shop in Lubbock at below minimum wage, with no health insurance.

It would not begin to approach justice but it would be a start.

Cheney did set our energy policies for the last eight years. You think his Big Oil buddies were interested in finding Americans alternative fuel sources and ways to make our country more energy efficient during that time?

What I don't understand is this: Jon Stewart has one of, if not the, best shows on tv. He does a great job of spreading the pain and sarcasm; even the White House is afraid to release documents because, quote: They may appear on the Daily Show (to paraphrase). Though decidely left-leaning, he does a fine job at times of ridiculing the press...even MSNBC.
That said, why is it that this writer and the HuffPost ONLY and ALWAYS headlines the Cheney bits. This part was a small part of the show, much less time than his "Rippy" Awards (watch the Award for the Stupidist Thing Said).
I would think it as important to headline his scathing remarks on Dems, liberals, other conservatives (which the Post does report), and particularly the press.

Would like to see his clips o Beck and Becks guest who advocated for Osama Bin Laden to hit America hard/explosively/massively so that America would see just how UNSAFE USA is with Obama in charge...THIS is allowed on the air but a simple WTF is censored for the public protection against obscenity --frankly find it far more obscene to have someone advocating for the nation to be hit bigtime in order to attempt to make an absurd slef interested point that is far off the mark as the Cheny sorts left us in dire straits that were made far worse due to their wretched helmig and leaving the mess for all others to clean up or attempt to clean up !!!

Dick, don't worry. No troops have come home. The 130,000 are all still there in force. They are just now called "advisers".

These Cheney appearances are merely a way of pumping sales for his upcoming memoirs. Think of the most cynical, low-down and rotten thing and you can bet your bottom dollar that is his motive.

Well when I first heard Cheney's statement I was like your stinking Administration agreed to it!!!! It is so obvious this is political. I mean would you expect someone who disagreed about going to war in Iraq in the first place would somehow decide that the Bush Administration was wrong and we should stay in Iraq indefinitely. Cheney needs to go back into his bunker!

"OOH BUT A GENIUS YOU ARE! I've been saying this to people for along time. Even the removal dates for the troops, are pretty much the same as they would have been under the Bush administration. I've believed for some time that our so called government, is nothing more than a 'Dog & Pony show". That none of what we see is real, and that the bankes and other corporate leaders, are actually running this country; and it's being run from Dubai. Take a look at how many republican officials bought property in the large community development in Dubai. Hopefully somebody other than us will begin to recognize what really happening.

Do you know which republicans, lobbyist and high dollar political contributors have bought property in Dubai? I have seen some interesting stuff on the boom in Dubai. I think the justice department should follow the money, which only happens with good journalist, or private citizens exercising their first amendment rights.

When does Cheney's criminal trial start?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:33 PM on 07/01/2009

Never, if it would up to US justice system. But these crimes are of such magnitude that sooner or later the case will be in trial at international level. Hopefully sooner because I dont think this man very many years left in him.

Umm . . . you all know the US still has more than 130,000 troops in Iraq, right? And, there at least that many US private contractors there providing "support services" to the troops. More than a quarter million US soldiers and support staff on the ground in Iraq--NOW. And, Haliburton subsidiaries are lining their vaults in Dubai with our tax dollars to the benefit of Dick Cheney. And, troop levels to maintain control of the permanent US bases in Iraq will number in the 10's of thousands for the foreseeable future.
ALMOST NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!!! This is another case of news media distraction of the US voters.

Da rth Cheney trying to use the dark side of the F0rce and the old Jedi mind trick to make folks believe that something was actually gained that could now be wasted by getting out of Iraq.
