Bernie was just the tip of the 'iceberg' for his ponzi scheme. We use to laugh at the Russia for their pyramid schemes that ruined the live of millions of Russian in the late 90. Now look who got egg on their faces.

Don't tell me she didn't know what was going on? So now she's free to spend his offshore account billions without recourse?

She'll be living in her own private hell... being ostracized from society. Poor thing.

I hope the IRS is scrutinizing Ruthie's spending because there is still a lot of money unaccounted for and I think she has access to an offshore or Swiss account.

I, maybe naively, believe that she'll be followed, her actions will too, and that eventually she will lead the prosecutors to some hidden money and that will be it for Mrs. Madoff. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes, not at all. Justice will be done, if not immediately.

No one has mentioned, not on this discussion, the very obvious closeness of the two Madoffs. I know much less about the sons and his brother, who I'm sure are under investigation, but I've read a lot about how close they were, how she procured clients for him. I wonder if she misses him, as anyone that intimate for 50 years would. They sure looked like two peas in a pod. So, is she hurting emotionally? If yes, and I presume yes, then it's more likely that she'll make a wrong step not tomorrow but within a year or two. What do you say?

This is too easy as the Post story confirms why Ruth left all of that money on the table. Still she walks away with $2.5 million and no jail time. What a sweet deal.

If $2.5M is being "squeezed dry" then count me in!

Not sure how this lasted as long as it did. Surely at some point some investors withdrew their money with their profits. Obviously Madoff had lots of help, otherwise he would have been preparing fake reports 24/7. All while Ruthie's going, "My husband, he's such a genius. I don't know how he does it. But I don't ask questions."

That's exactly what happened.

It is about time that someone posted an obvious but embarrassing point. A point the investors don't want anyone to talk about.

It is equally astonishing that the investors didn't question how Bernie Madoff was coming up with such relatively high returns, as it is astonishing that his wife didn't question how her husband was making so much money.

There was an element of greed among the investors and Ruth Madoff. The investors could have invested their money in more open and better disclosed funds; instead the clamored to be part of Madoff's group. They chose to take the risk, without question or research, to earn more.

They didn't ask enough questions, or check their statements, or ask why they were getting no statements, or check the returns versus actual market returns (that's what the accountant who alerted the SEC did) -- on and on. It's called caveat emptor.

I feel terrible for the investors, but it is time for them to admit their role in their state of affairs, instead of blaming poor, hapless, maybe greedy Ruth. Once they do that -- admit their responsibility for their losses -- they will be better able to start again, reinvent themselves and move on.

How is it even conceivable that Ruth Madoff was not even aware that her husband was running a pnzi scheme? She did the books for years and apparently Bernie didn't even have equipment on the 17th floor to trade stocks where the scheme was carried out! Either she was totally aware of the scheme or she is the stupidest person on the face of the earth.......... and I don't think she is stupid.

Whatever happened to accessory to the fact, during the fact, and after the fact? I guess his willingness to plead guilty left his family off the hook. Now they can go get the rest of the money in the offshore and foreign banks and live their life in peace since dear old dad set them up for life. Who's in charge of this fiasco? What dummy's.

Francis Bellamy's original Pledge of Allegiance (written 1892) read, "I Pledge Allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."

The pledge was supposed to be quick and to the point. Bellamy designed it to be stated in 15 seconds. He had initially also considered using the words equality and fraternity but decided they were too controversial since many people opposed equal rights for women and blacks.

The current Pledge of Allegiance reads: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I guess, since the original pledge was most definitely geared to some and not all when it came to liberty and justice for all, we could assume that the current pledge means that liberty and justice is for a few chosen and not for everyone. This would included people like Ruth Madoff and Linda Lay (Ken Lay’s wife).
