Sanford Backs Out Of Promise To Release Records

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has backed out of a promise to release personal financial records to the media proving he did not use state money for trips to see his mistress.

A day after Sanford declared in an emotional Associated Press interview that his mistress is his soul mate, spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor does not want to discuss personal matters in the media anymore. Sanford is providing the records to law enforcement as part of an investigation of his travel to see the Argentine woman.

Sanford agreed this week to provide the AP with proof of his payment for trips to New York and Argentina to see her.

His staff first said the records might be made available Tuesday, and then the governor's spokesman said Wednesday Sanford would not release them.

He definitely should resign. But what does that have to do with his affair? He's foolish to waste so much time fighting to reject federal stimulus for his state that is very much needed. He looked foolish for his economic views long before the affair was revealed, and he should go.

It's not often we get to see a man make a complete fool of himself live and in real time, and embarrass everyone who believed in him in the process.

Apparently, Sanford is reading the news and blogs and actually thinks that we are complementing him and cheering him on, thus, the reason he can't shut his trap about his sappy Maria love thing.
