YourTango:

What's your type? Talk, dark and handsome? Short, bald and chubby? Muscular, unavailable and angry? How about Explorer, Builder, Negotiator or Director? These are the four personality types that anthropologist Helen Fisher coined during her research into why we fall in love with certain people but not others. According to Fisher, interpreting these types can help you navigate the dating ocean and net the perfect tuna (or man, if that's what you prefer).

I like the Ayurvedic dosha evaluations.
I find it a little more useful and helpful.

Harry Dean Stanton had me at the point when he picked up his broom and danced with it in a music video. Then when he played his fiddle, I was ready to propose....

I admit I love these personality tests. This one, hmmm, just don't see myself anywhere. The most meaning personality test for me is the Myers-Briggs. I'm an INFJ.

I'm with you there Laurie - Myers-Briggs makes the most sense to me.

Hard-core INTP here.

Times New Roman, although I did flirt with Garamond when I was much younger and less worldly wise.

I was always more of a Palatino guy here,... The 'sans serifs' fonts never did it for me.

:D

I have not read the new Helen Fisher book, but I did read Why We Love and thought it was a complete crock of BS. I'm not making this up: She believes that seminal fluid alleviates depression in women, that is makes women happy because the chemicals from the man's ejaculate seeps into their brains. I actually exchanged very odd e-mails with this woman after reading Why We Love. I would not consider this person an authroty on anything.

Note that the "quiz" is actually a front end for Match.com, an on-line pay-to-play "dating" service. Match.com apparently paid the good "doctor" for her research, and own the chemistry.comm" website promoting her book.

That's an essential truth about men that took me a long time to discover. The things I spent so much time on (hair, clothes, weight) wasn't what was most important to them.

I actually went over to the site and took the test. I don't know what to think because every time I take a personality test online it compares me to Oprah and Ghandi. That's fine for personalities but for a love quiz? The eternally unmarried rich Oprah and Ghandi who got married when he was 13. Nice. LMAO! Next time I'll resist the love/personality quizzes.

For me it is simple: Chef. Not home cook, not line cook, not sous chef, not "guy in charge of the kitchen but I don't know what I'm doing". But the guy in charge, who is creative, who "dreams" recipes, who can lead people, who is a teacher and who obviously loves food. They are artists, but more than that because they don't flake out like some artists can.
When you look back on life and talk about the great meals you had together, whether cooked yourself or eaten elsewhere, it is just very important to me. As most people find out as they get older and memories of childhood food are more important than memories of a song.
Put that in whatever box you want.

I prefer the MMPI myself. What's not to love about a psychological profile test that asks you to choose:

Would you rather be a forest ranger or eat ice cream?

I kid you not.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:15 PM on 07/04/2009

The MMPI won't let ya say "sometimes"; they want an "either" "or" and that's not how most personality traits function. So much depends on context and situation.

I think it is useless, but I understand some employers use it for job applicants.
