Levi Johnston On RNC: "That Was Ridiculous"

New York Magazine:

"That was ridiculous," Levi says of the RNC. "I was just like, 'Uhhh.'  " At the time, the Palins insinuated he'd have to move to D.C. if McCain won. "I ain't never moving," he says with a shudder, thinking back. Luckily for him, his team lost. He and Bristol broke up early this year, shortly after they welcomed baby Tripp Easton into the world. But the life of this self-described "fucking redneck" did not go back to normal.

Levi goes along with what seems good at the time. He thought the RNC was ridiculous but he went anyway. One day he'll probably say what he's doing now is ridiculous. Cash in while you can Levi.

This totally average and unremarkable teenager gets snagged out of his little cocoon of Wasilla by the fickle fishook of fate, and thrust into the national limelight. And suddenly, despite himself and his obvious limitations, he is fawned over, idealized into an All-American kid, and given entree to that rarified, media-generated status of a "celebrity." The ensuing events of months past have done nothing other than demonstrate how pedestrian a fellow he actually is, and yet he continues to be the object of media adulation and public attention. It even seems he actually believes he has encountered such favor due to some merit on his part. Which may be true, if by "merit" we mean the accomplishment of impregnating a teen-aged girl. (When I was his age, impregnating a teen-age girl was considered to be an undesirable thing.) The whole episode doesn't so much impugn young Mr. Johnston as it does the tawdry American media which continues to use him for its own pecuniary advantage, and that clamoring portion of the American public which insatiably lusts after glimpses of those thrust into undeserved prominence. It is little wonder that our culture is held in such low esteem by our Continental counterparts.

What galls me is the often quoted comment "surprise or unexpected pregnancy" as if they were playing with matches and did not know they could get burned. Give me a break! Tell it like it is, just teen age irresponsibility. This is not judgmental, it is observation and a reality check is needed here to reign in all those stupid reporters who try to tiptoe around this 'sensitive' issue as if to dismiss it as an act of 'duh?" Pu-lease! As long as the media does a wink, wink about the consequences of the sexual act and treat it like a cosmic miracle my respect for same is zip!
