Sanford: 39 Trips With No Security In 2009

The State:

Gov. Mark Sanford left the Governor's Mansion without a security escort, 38 times in 2008. In the first six months of this year, he left the mansion without security, 39 times.

Those trips are about one-third of the 195 trips Sanford made from the mansion, with or without security, over that 18-month period.

I think this indicates that the "security" around the governor is just a convenience and should be looked at as an item from the state budget that should be reduced and or eliminated. I am sure there are a few schools that need more teachers, police departments that could use full time officers and even the fired department needs more EMTs.

The "security thing" is way overdone . Most governors are prefectly safe in traveling, especialy when they are away from their home states.

It sounds like Sanford was always strange and problematic, but his wife and those around him kept this strangeness from the public. Now it is all coming out and this affair is just the tip of the iceberg. I bet we find out even more egregious facts. He was sneaking away without a security detail almost 40 times this year alone.

This man is headed for a breakdown. That's what happens when you put too much fervor into an ideology and find it's humanly impossible to follow. Does anyone know if Sanford was raised in a religious commune back in the '60's? This was their plan. Anyone remember those parents hiring those folks to "spirit" their kids away from the charlatans running those communes? I guess he wasn't de-programmed from his life behind the fence.
I suppose those 39 should have been the tip-off that he was headed somewhere else, other than home or his office.
He is a great candidate for the reality show "Intervention"!

Sanford belongs to a secretive international group called the Fellowship. Though secretive, it holds some Christian evangelical-like tenets some consider heretical. Senator John Ensign also belongs and lives at their C Street, Washington appartment building/church.
