Lawmakers in India were caught on camera catching up on some sleep during a speech by the speaker of the lower house of parliament.

I think this state is called YOGA NID. You know, when you are so relaxed by excerises (mental and physical) that the monkey mind decides to slip into sleep. But as we are talking about politicians, I doubt this is Yoga Nid. I rather think that they are sleeping from absolute boredom and the impossibility to make a difference in the mundane governance of the country.
What can our representative blame their lack of action on? At least this rep of India is honest about being tuned out and out of touch.
I've had to sit through any number of boring lectures, speeches, presentations, you name it. The fear/shame of being seen sleeping by others is usually enough to keep me awake. I sometimes pinch myself, kick my foot, or inflict some other pain to keep me awake if I just can't do it otherwise. I once had to literally hold my eye-lids apart with my fingers, but I did it. It's obvious that these people don't have quite the same level of self-consciousness. In the end, they just end up looking bad.
