NEW YORK — The memorial for Michael Jackson may be a tough ticket live, but it shouldn't be hard to find it on television.

ABC, CNN, MSNBC and E! Entertainment are among the networks that have already announced plans to offer live coverage of the Tuesday memorial, set for 10 a.m. PDT in Los Angeles' Staples Center.

ABC is sending anchor Charles Gibson to Los Angeles for the story, setting aside its typical daytime programming. CBS anchor Katie Couric will also be at the Staples Center, although the network has not yet said whether it was offering live coverage of the memorial.

NBC is not planning live coverage, but will wrap up highlights in a one-hour prime-time special Tuesday night.

CNN has seen its ratings soar with the Jackson story, and it will show the memorial on the main network and HLN (formerly Headline News). CNN International will air the ceremony to the rest of the world. Anderson Cooper, Larry King and Don Lemon are the anchors for CNN coverage. Robin Meade, A.J. Hammer and Jane Velez-Mitchell will anchor at HLN. CNN en Espanol will also cover it.

Chris Jansing will anchor live coverage of the memorial on MSNBC. Fox News Channel hasn't announced its plans.

E! Entertainment will cover the ceremony on its television network and its Web site.

Celebrities are going to die. Since we have collected so many of them over the years, and since so many are reaching old age, this situation is going to get progressively more ludicrous. In 10 years, round-the-clock celebrity mourning and obituary coverage is likely to overwhelm all other programming. It is time for Rupert Murdock to start the Fox Bereavement Network and corner the market for 24/7 celebrity death coverage.

If the research suggests there'd be an audience for such a channel, it'll launch within a year. Brought to you by the AARP and Viagra.

This is turning into a much much bigger event than the inaugeration. The president must be so jealous.

I don't think the Jackson Family should pay. Michael Jackson has brought and will bring so much tax revenue off this wake and all future visits to your fair city and fair state that will more than pay for the public services. I think the City folks should continue to ask for donations and not fall prey to the negaitivity of those who wish tarnish MJJ legacy, you will be repaid. Have Faith for once. Who was a humanitarian who donated more than $300 million dollars of his income to charities. to speak of him or insinuate that he was some sort of sicko pedifil is so outrageous. he was not guilty. He suffered more than we could ever know on these false charges. anyone who actually knows him says he would never hurt a child. i say to those who wish to think of him as a pediofile (sp?) 'you should do as much for children as he has before you throw stones." GOD loves Michael and that is why so much of GOD's creative energy flowed thru Michael. there is no other explaination. He was even working on a symphony while preparing for this 50 date tour. who among us can say we have let this Much of GOD's LOve flow thru us?

I doubt he donated anywhere near $300 million to charity. His net worth was only $230 million. Do you have a citation for that?

This is infuriating. Does the whole world stop for this? Yes, he was very good when he was a kid, before he started chiseling away at his face and turning himself into a horror show. Guess we'll have to forgo this fake-news and watch a movie.

Coverage will be live online for those of us who are working and can't spend all afternoon watching what will likely be a three-hour service. CNNLive.com will carry it online, and I'm sure some of the black channels like TVOne.com and BET.com.

What if a national or international incident were to occur tomorrow? Would we even hear about it? If there was anything embarrassing or criminal to be revealed about a certain governor who just resigned from office, Tuesday would be the perfect day for that story to break.

This memorial is an ENTERTAINMENT story! The E! Entertainment is the ONLY channel that could justify bringing continuous coverage. The so-called news media outlets hardly have reporters on the ground in Iran and Afghanistan anymore, yet they can pull together the resources for this? I expect as much from CNN but MSNBC? Really? This is bread and circuses, people, and I for one am appalled and outraged.

NO MICHAEL WASN'T CRUEL AT ALL. I THINK MR. BUDE, YOU NEED TO LOOK UP , ONE OF MICHAEL JACKSON'S SPECIALS. IT'S CALLED" GHOST". YOU CAN FIND IT ON YOU TUBE. TO ME, YOU ARE WHAT THE MAN, SEES IN THE MIRROR THAT MICHAEL IS TALKING ABOUT. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, WHAT I AM KINDLY TRYING TO TELL YOU. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT ME, HERE. I WOULD BE GLAD TO HELP YOU DECIPHER WHAT HE REALLY MEANT. HE WASN'T TRYING TO SCARE PEOPLE. HE WAS TRYING TO WAKE PEOPLE UP. TO SHOW THEM, WHEN THEY POINT THE FINGER AT OTHERS...THEY NEED TO BE CAREFUL. BECAUSE WHAT LIES INSIDE OF THEM, IS EVEN MORE FRIGHTENING THAN ANYTHING THEY TRIED TO SAY ABOUT MICHAEL. WATCH IT. I HOPE IT HELPS YOU.

NO MORE TV for me until this ridiculous nonsense is over The unprecedented, day-after-day coverage of Jackson's drugged demise is absurd. He was just a musician, folks, just a musician. And one who specialized in three-minute songs and glitzy videos -- hardly a Bach or Mozart. The TV coverage suggests that he was both of these, plus Jesus, Buddha and Zeus all rolled together. Insane, and so depressing what it says about our impoverished culture.

Then why are yopu reading HP articles about him AND taking the time to comment?

There are other things to read on this site.

Because this article is about the media coverage of this event taking precedence over hard news coverage, which is a very legitimate concern to comment on.

Let them do what they want - I'm sure there's a cable network that will be running Law & Order - a show with more relevance than the cirsus that this memorial is going to be.
I can only hope that once this memorial is over - we will all be granted a moratorium on further "breaking news bulletins" that break neither new news or for that matter any news regarding Michael Jackson! (Breaking News, Michael Jackson is still dead, we still don't know exactly why but we're gonna keep speculating to fill 24/7 broadcasting)

Please Please Please just make it stop!

No, no, no! We must have a 24/7 Michael Jackson channel. Our lives will be so empty without our precious Michael.

If you don't have a life to begin with, and worship at the altar of celebrity, then your life might be empty. As for myself, and everyone I know, we'll be moving right along at a healthy clip.

Sure wonder if you were concerned about these issues when all the coverage was on Anna Nicole and her little baby girl? All you righteous people... b/c there is a desire to honor this man's memory before it is lost in time shouldn't raffle your feathers. Believe me.... those issues will be there and I hope you all will BE CLICKING THAT KEYBOARD AND SPREADING THE WORD.... a hot summer, recession, it's not a bad idea to be remember a ICON like MJ> Live, love, laugh and learn.

Actually, there was a lot of complaining about the coverage of Anna Nicole, because it seemed to go on forever. I don't think she contributed anything compared to Michael Jackson, but she was a celebrity. Excessive coverage is to be expected.

Oh, goody. We won't have to watch the President in Russia, Congress selling health care reform down the river, Iranian clerics lining up against Khamenei, the right-wing coup in Honduras, Palin committing political suicide or anything else that might happen this week. What a disgrace the MSM is.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:44 AM on 07/06/2009

Right on!

We desperately need a Real News Channel that makes it a strict policy to not cover most tabloid news and only give minimal coverages to major tabloid events, like Jacksons death, so that serious news about important events can get the coverage it deserves.

If only our troops got this much coverage when they give their lives for our country. I hope tomorrow is the last of this, but I doubt it. . I hope California has some money left to meet paychecks.
