Double Date! Obamas And Medvedevs Dine At Gorki Residence, Russian President Wears Jeans (PHOTOS, POLL)

After a day of tourism, the first couple left Sasha and Malia behind (possibly with First Granny Marian Robinson, who accompanied the family on the trip) and visited Moscow's Gorki residence for dinner with President Dmitry Medvedev and his wife Svetlana. The dress code appeared to be casual, as President Medvedev paired jeans with his jacket. Is that appropriate? See the photos and vote in the poll below.

Frankly, they can all wear black shoes, white sweat socks, plaid shorts and cheap polo shirts as long as they lead and govern in an enlightened way. Isn't that the point?
As charismatic as the Obamas are (and that is important), their duties are to lead and govern. Same goes for the Medvedevs.
At this point in the game, "fashion" is pretty irrelevant. Do not confuse fashion with aesthetics or design, both of which are far more important to the public benefit than silly clothing choices.
Besides, we have other arbiters of style to lead us in that area.
The world has changed. If our leaders can be more relaxed, more...real; perhaps we'll be able to have a better, more relaxed world.
And that would be a good thing.

They forgot to tell us the menu which is the most important thing....next to knowing that they did dine together.

PoliticalAmazon says Bill Clinton never took his kid on international trips where serious negotiations were at hand. He even took his mother-in-law along sometimes and Chelsea didn't need a baby sitter.

August 2000 - Bill & Chelsea traveled to Nigeria, Burundi and on to Cairo to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

November 14-18, Bill Clinton & Chelsea traveled to Russia, China, Vietnam with Chelsea.

March 19, 2000 - Bill Clinton & Chelsea & Dorothy Rodham (Mother In Law) traveled to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Switzerland.

November, 1999 -- Bill Clinton & Chelsea on a 10 day trip that included Kosovo Turkey, Greece and Italy.

June, 1999 -- Bill, Hillary and Chelsea in Macedonia.

June 1998 -- Bill, Hillary and Chelsea 9 days in China and Taiwan.

FINALLY! MO is NOT wearing those dang belts way up high above her rib cage.

Really, really tired of the same thing with her. The plastic ones are the worst. Sonya Rykeil as a designer is not being well promoted.

Bingo, I'm with you on the belts...time to go forever. Horrendous.

I'm too sexy for my belts, my belts,....I'm too sexy for my jeans, my jeans....my, it's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in everyway.

"Really, really tired of the same thing with her."

Well, isn't that funny. I could say the same thing about you. In fact, I caught some of your n. asty posts on the BillO'Reilly thread and it seems LOTS of HuffPost bloggers are "really, really tired of the same thing with you." When you get a minute, check out some of their responses to you. Quite interesting.

Tsk, tsk, tsk . . .

Can't believe I am commenting on fashion... but here I am, commenting on fashion (shiver).

This seems like an obvious call. All four are dressed for casual evening. The jeans are fine and, as devadasi pointed out, constitute a nod to America.

I thought it was a nod to France.

How would jeans be a nod to France?

They all look kind of schlumpy--and like their having a "real" time. Which, President or not, is good for digestion and our political future.

Who cares. Obama should have left the wife and kids at home, and grannie too.
He's negotiating NUCLEAR WAR WEAPONS with RUSSIA. Let's get serious here.

Bas's comment was about style, and questions our POTUS' "style" of bringing his wife, children and MIL to Russia, a country that vilifies America and Americans, when they are negotiating nuclear weapons.

Obama looks like he's on a vacation with the wifey, kiddies and MIL in tow. I think it diminishes the event, and I would not be surprised if Russians, especially the politicians, consider this a snub.

And, I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn! Get over yourself. This gig all about lining up the future, future for my retirement speeches and books!

Obama's legacy is not going to be regarded kindly if it includes treating negotiations with the Russians, on his first trip to Russia, like a family vacation. I can see bringing the FLOTUS, but the kiddies and MIL? Really, this isn't a trip to the sea shore on 4th of July.

The Russians may consider this a snub...or maybe they just chalk it up to America's cluelessness, and the immaturity of their new president.

Guess you didn't hear all the career diplomats and Russian experts talking about the tremendous progress Obama made on the nuclear talks.

Russian Ambassador Pickering said the wife and children were brought to soften up the personal relationship between the two countries, to show the Russian people he thinks enough of their country to bring his family. It is going over very well in Russia.

Medvedev is cool. He will outshine Putin before too long. Putin has one foot in the past, in the KGB world. And don't think that Medvedev is a pushover to western style and culture either. I was just in Russia and they can stand up to America any day.
Russians rock!

i think it is so wonderful that the first Granny accompanies them and watches the girls. That helps them stay out of sight and out of mind from the public. They are so lucky to have their wonderful Grannie :-) and the P/FLOTUS look great.

Medvedev probably wore jeans as a tribute to Obama -- nice gesture. In Russia, jeans are seen as archetypically American and very cool.

Sometimes literally. My husband was taking pictures at a familly gathering here and made the mistake of leaving the lens cap dangling. You guessed it, the cat LEAPED and that picture turned out to be a furry blur.
