MOSCOW — Russia's first lady Svetlana Medvedev took Michelle Obama and her two daughters on a low-key tour of the Kremlin just hours after they arrived in Moscow on Monday.

They set out on their tour as President Barack Obama began talks with Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev elsewhere in the Kremlin on arms control and other issues.

The fortified Kremlin is a leading tourist attraction in Moscow as well as where the presidential offices are situated.

Michelle Obama _ wearing a peach Narciso Rodriguez dress _ and daughters Malia and Sasha had tea in the Winter Garden. They went into the Cathedral of the Assumption, the largest cathedral in the Kremlin, where czars were once coronated.

They also toured the Armory museum, which boasts a large collection of imperial regalia, and the State Diamond Fund, home to the 190-carat Orlov diamond and the world's largest sapphire.

Neither of the girls was shown in official photographs of the visit. State television, which has devoted considerable airtime to the summit, has not broadcast footage of the Kremlin tour.

Michelle Obama, who has upstaged her husband during previous visits to Europe, is expected to keep a lower profile during the two-day trip.

What? They walk over to the Armory and don't go down to St. Basil? That's the most beautiful building on earth. All of the Kremlin and Red Square is beautiful. My idea of heaven is sitting on the north end, drinking a cold beer and watching the girls walk past.

A small grammatical point - it should be Svetlana Medvedeva. Many Russian surnames change with gender.

Michelle actually looks happy, no scowling. I think she feels very comfortable at the Kremlin.

Can you imagine how difficult it will be in the future for a new boyfriend of one of the girls to "impress" her?

Boyfriend: "Hey, Sasha! I got us 2 tickets for the Russian ballet this weekend."

Sasha: "Meh...been there, done that - in Russia. In fact, they are following me on Twitter."

They talk about what she's wearing b/c she is not elected to anything and what goes on in her head is of no consequence to the American public. I voted for Obama but have no interest in M's daily comings'/goings, and in fact, will not vote for him again if she is seen to have any strategic input to the Office.

Matter of fact, after a visit, to 'the District" on a visit, Obama better, darn fast, look after small business....neighborhood I was in, humming with his ineptness....there is no other topic for any of the young business people, at a 4th bbq...not world posturing, N. Korea, healthcare other than his forcing it on their pocketbooks, environment.....IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID!!!

Opinion is that Obama needs experienced biz people in positions, not patronage for the guys on the campaign who came up with a great t'-shirt, button or slogan.

GOP has proven they will vote for anyone....BUSH, so lookout...the candidate means nothing to GOP voters.

Ok, so I hear your complaints. What are your solutions??

ITS THE ECONOMY STUPID!!! Please remember that the economy is not just pumping money into businesses; the citizens need to have money to spend at these businesses. And what is killing jobs? It wasn't just the housing market but also included the lack of oversight during the last administration and the spending of billions without thinking about waste, fraud and abuse. This administration must first MEND whats broken (ie: health care, energy, the military and it's contractors, etc.). Small businesses might just be able to hire more people if they don't have to spend as much on health care, we will be able to save billions when we don't import all of our energy and the Pentagon has not been audited in a decade - while spending money on 'outdated' war machines. When these things are on the way to recovery Main Street will also be on the way to recovery. But, please, understand that It has taken years to get us to this point - NOT just the last six months.

Talking to people like taketheballandgo home is like talking to a wall. It is beyond ludicris to think this economy would turn around in 6 months and if you really did vote for Obama, which I doubt, you would realize that.

"Michelle Obama _ wearing a peach Narciso Rodriguez dress ..."

Why is everything about Michelle Obama in the media always tied to what she wears?
Is it possible she has more going on in her head than clothing fashion -- do you think?

Of course she has more going on in her head, but the media thinks it is giving the public what it THINKS it wants. And even if her clothes impress certain folks at least they are taking notice of her and maybe, just maybe it will lead them to learning something more about her - and there is a lot there for them to learn.

Great perspective! That's an excellent way to look at it. Although I fully expected it, it was still disappointing to see HuffPost attempt to relegate the First Lady to "just clothing." But as you said, folks worldwide are taking notice of her and if they care to, they can learn so much more.

Think back to the article on the First Lady unveiling the bust of Sojourner Truth. Even though HuffPost chose to make the First Lady's dress the focus of the article, so many posters on that thread looked past that and focused on the IMPORTANCE of the event. Many posters included links to Sojourner Truth's "Ain't I A Woman?" speech and made the connection to her significance in history and First Lady Obama's. It was a great thing to see.

What she wears is an expression of herself. Maybe it's easier to take Michelle seriously if she wears less ridiculous clothes. Just a thought yet women are always going to be interested in what she wears though we couldn't think of anything more boring than what some past F/L wore especially LB. Michelle has such an opportunity but ....................that's why business women dress more conservative so that they can be taken seriously.

Man that sounds scary, "Obamas Tour The Kremlin"

What is the American equivalent to the Kremlin?

One might argue the Pentagon or the White House to some extent. We don't have that many iconic fortresses so it's hard to make a direct connection, but any of our iconic political buildings would make a fitting tour for foreign dignitaries. Though since the Russian presidential administration is housed there, I would say White House.

to supertroll Noyurenot about W's stimulus plan

Paulson on March 13th 2008

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said on Friday that an economic stimulus program that will put $168 billion into consumers' hands this year and next could help create hundreds of thousands of new jobs.

"We know they're going to be helpful," Paulson said on CNN television. "These checks should be a big part of adding 500,000 to 600,000 additional jobs this year."

But probably O's stimulus destroyed W's

Travel is the best possible education - bar none. Even if it's only to the other side of the mountain you can see from your house, across the river to enter another state, outside the city to see the countryside, from the countryside into the city to visit a museum or understand it's sights and sounds, across the nation (as a road trip if/when possible) or across the ocean. Accepting the people you meet along the as they are (rather than what you think they should be) and learning from them - and about them.

Last summer I heard the story (I don't know if it was true, but I wouldn't be surprised) of a group of 6th graders on a school trip outside a big city. I heard that it was the first time some of those children had ever seen cows grazing in a field, a farm silo - and it was the first time they had ever stood on feal 'dirt' - and they even went 'frog hunting' in a small lake.

The Obama children are in a unique position to see this country of ours, as well as some of this great world. It will serve them well in the future. I wish the the First family well as they travel.

I think it's so cool that they took the kids (and granny! -- love her!) -- it's the best education they could ever get!

It's so nice to have a First Family that doesn't have to sneak into world capitals in the dark of night, too.

The Obamas are excellent representatives of the US -- have fun, girls!

On October 18th 2005, the Outstanding Public Debt rose to $8,003,897,406,911.24 -- the first time it had risen above $8 trillion. On January 15th 2004, the Outstanding Public Debt jumped $13 billion to $7,001,852,607,623.35. This was the first time in history the U.S. National Debt surpassed the $7 trillion mark and came less than two years after the Debt first passed $6 trillion.

As a comparison, the National Debt took over six years to rise from $5 trillion to $6 trillion.

Of course he/she/it will blame Obama. The thugs have nowhere to go so they hide their heads in the sand where nothing gets through unless they want it to. They keep hoping to come here and post nonesense and hope to rile up some Obama supporters against him and in some cases, it may be working. However, those of us who really voted for him knew what he was/is up against and are willing to give it time. He has a plan and he needs to have cooperation to get it to work.
