Emptywheel:

You know how Obama's DOJ claims that we can't see Cheney's interview with Patrick Fitzgerald because it's privileged? Well, Dick Cheney's lawyer already leaked the so-called privileged contents three years ago.

Cheney's actions and political decisions had absolutely nothing to do with making America safer. They had more to do with making America more powerful, but mostly they had to do with making a small subset of Americans richer and more powerful by any means necessary.

Cheney had once said that the only mistake that Nixon made was allowing his people to get caught. That pretty much sums up his Machiavellian mindset.

We need to find a reliable candidate for 2012, say Sarah Palin. She'll put in the long hours and never give up.....

The only executive privilege that I recognize is the fact that anyone in the executive branch is privileged to serve the people...

Nobody from the Bush administration will ever be held to account for anything (No matter how much evidence exists.). The ruling class in America stands outside of the US Constitution. Let's face it, only people of money and/or family influence will ever be elected to high office. Presidents and Vice Presidents aren't directly elected by US citizens. They are installed by state selected electors (Electors are under no obligation to vote with the popular vote.). The constitution, until amended, is designed to keep the highest office in the US out of the hands of the common man or woman.

Yet another reason I've grown disillusioned with Mr. Obama.

Backtracking on a public option for health care, ending Don't ask don't tell, but telling the gay community he supports it, they just need to be patient. Not investigating Cheney for perjury, authorizing torture, corruption as to the awarding of contracts in Iraq & New Orleans, not overturning FISA, writing briefs to bar persons whose privacy was invaded from suing, unless and until they can prove they've been harmed by their phones being tapped, email read, attorney client conversations monitored, which of course they can't do because the only way to obtain records that your privacy has been breached, is to sue, and seek the records as discovery. Gitmo still open. Tribunals still in place, indefinite detentions on the table, rule of law elastic.

The list is growing ever longer. Mr. Obama keeps finding more & more "reasons" for the transparency and change he ran on not to occur. Using bipartisanship is his favorite for not passing the agenda me, and many like me worked and voted for.

It appears Bernie Sanders is the only true liberal, outside of Kennedy, left in the senate. Lehey may have some spine when it comes to going after Cheney. But the credit card bill, he allowed the senate to cave. TARP capping bonus & pay, cave.

Looks like we once again got republican lite.

I think Obama is taking a steady, cautious approach toward his goals and is thinking of the long-term. It seems like most progressives adopt a "Now, now, now! Are we THERE yet" mentality to politics.

Exactly. Anytime you impatient loud mouths want to run a candidate of your own who could actually win a election let me know.

What he listed isn't entirely a matter of waiting. In many cases, it is a complete position reversal for the President.

Extrodinary rendition, and indefinite detention are two of the first ones that come to mind.

It has been six months. Why aren't people in jail? This is like Bill Clinton when he did not go after IranContra. It turns out he was involved. If Obama and Holder don't go after these guys, I don't know what I am going to do.

Leave the country?

Putting them in jail and eliminating the mass corruption on Wall St. and the CIA ties to wrongdoing, i.e. Allen Stanford would bring back confidence in our country and would even translate to the economy. It's a big job and, right now, it does not look like it is going to be done by the Obama administration. Obama will be a failure as a president if he does not get the justice system in order, which in the history of this country has always let purveyors of gen o side and enormous criminal wrongdoing get away with it.

That's a good, solid plan: eliminate corruption and wrongdoing. Put Them in jail. It's so simple.

Nice overall notion - you got any 'how to' plans to implement it? It's not as easy as you might think.

I have lots of how tos. One thing I know is that the public is cynical, downtrodden, demoralized, etc. I know that this makes people not act as well as they should and feel that if others could get away with that, why can't I get away with this. The constitution needs to be rebuilt. Jefferson thought the constitution should be changed every thirty years in order to deal with the evolving forms of corruption that would end up nullifying the intentions of the constitution in time. What has been done to this country is so foul that we have to enact guards in the constitution that will make sure that it will never happen again.
1. pardons must be overturned
2. statutes of limitations must be extended
3. the DOJ needs to become more independent
4. we need a multiparty system
5. we need to be able to have a no confidence vote in our president
6. JFK, Watergayte, Jonestown, IranContra, K eating Saving and Loan, RonBrownandVInceFoster, and nine 1 one need to be reinvestigated and solved.

I have a feeling it is the same cast of characters. William K. Black said this financial crisis could only have happened due to mass corruption. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPxRGCaABg0

Economics anyone? I have a plan, basically tax oil, tax the rich, fire the bankers and insurers, put them into job retraining in jobs which would most benefit our country, regulate, regulate and regulate especially Wall st., change the definition of a corporation and removing many of their rights, not allow any employee to make more than 150 times that of the lowest paid employee, provide grants towards innovative business ideas, educate, educate, and educate, lower the number of hours worked to get overtime (this would force employers to hire more people), raise the minimum wage, require more vacations, voting day should be a national holiday, make the justice department more independent, eliminate the corruption who the expert William Black says caused this whole financial mess, require higher fuel standards, then require that any government expenditures be done with things 100% made in the USA, spend on large projects to make us more energy efficient. Renegotiate our debt with the Chinese. Cut everybody's debt by a significant factor

We're only a quasi Constitutional nation, it's no longer in effect universally...it's being held in abeyance..

The President and Eric Holder are committing, Obstruction of Justice, and making themselves accessories after the fact, but it doesn't matter anymore...

It still makes a nice prop for speeches and all though...

wow my words scrambled like eggs--

Why is Obama and Holder not holding criminal culpabilty to actionable cause for these criminals. The Department of Justice has United States Code Books for everything!

Lets see history of the US- has put away- Jeffery Skillings ( Enron) the world still turns
The US put Jeffery Dalmher in prison and he was killed_ The world still works
Bernie Madoff was given a new zip code.... and that is still to kind as he gets air to breathe

So why are men that held people against there will, lied, raped, tortured, bragged of torture, paid for torture while exploited other humans.... having talking points Ideas and looking for books deals... The BUSH/CHENEY WAR is criminal....the global world is watching

DC: "The president declassified the information and authorized and directed the vice president to get it out."

Is that clear enough for A.G. Holder?
