Palin: "Department Of Law" Protects The President

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/07/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:35 PM ET

Palin

Sarah Palin and her defenders have cited numerous ethics complaints against the Alaska governor as a practical reason for her resignation. Fighting the claims, Palin told the Anchorage Daily News Monday, was immobilizing her: "I'm not going to let Alaskans go through a year of stymied, paralyzed administration and not getting anything done."

Naturally, skeptical observers have wondered how Palin would handle being president if some ethics complaints are enough to make her unable to run a state. Palin's answer: if she was president, the Department of Law would protect her.

Palin said there is a difference between the White House and what she has experienced in Alaska. If she were in the White House the "department of law" would protect her from baseless ethical allegations.

"I think on a national level your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out," she said.

There is no Department of Law at the White House. Alaska does have a Department of Law.

I really can't believe this woman was potentially one snowstorm or one great movie away from the Vice Presidency of the United States.

Thank you Mother Nature and boring entertainment cycles for allowing the voters to actually.. vote last year.

Oh, it's down the hall from "Funny Walks?" I thought it was across from "Department of Stupid"
03:58 PM on 07/11/2009
No "Department of Stupid" yet, but there is a Department of Law in the State of Alaska. A quick Google search would have shown you that. http://www.law.state.ak.us/ You don't think that's why she referred to DOJ in that way, do you? I fully understand how difficult it is to wrap your mind around leftists winning, because I certainly have difficulty in connecting with that frightening reality too, but you did, so why can't you give this maniacal obsession a rest?

Because it all too easily highlights her incompetence. You're not against exposing incompetent people, are you?

Um, well, more on point... the DOJ doesn't stop ethics complaints and just "automatically throw them out." Maybe Governor Gump was wishing she could just order her own Dept of Law to throw out those pesky complaints.
12:43 PM on 07/11/2009
The dept. of Law is just down the hall from The Ministry of Funny Walks.

More than that, the WH's lawyers, even the President's lawyers cannot throw out charges made against them.
Some other legal or quasi-legal body would have to do that.

Of course in Sarah's case the governor appoints Alaska's state personnel board, the one that heard her ethics complaints (both those filed by others and the one she filed against herself), so it is hardly an unbiased judge since Sarah could fire them, without cause.

Sarah's ignorance screams out from her statement and her unwillingness to do, or have an employee do, even the minimum amount of research to insure that her statement was true and accurate, and could stand as the final proof of her lack of qualifications for any position of leadership. She is just too damn lazy to “Google it.”

She had several months and a large professional staff at her disposal, last fall, to find out what a VP does, but even toward the end of the campaign she still stated she didn't know what a VP "did all day."
That too was a defining moment in the long list disqualifying characteristics, that Palin flouts.

Now THAT'S funny
03:59 PM on 07/08/2009
And if elected president, she would appoint the cast from Law and Order to run her Department of Law.
03:17 PM on 07/08/2009
Richard Wolffe of Newsweek has confirmed that there is no department of law. It simply does not exist!
12:02 PM on 07/08/2009
Let's start by giving her the benefit of the doubt.
Yes, I laughed when I read "Department of Law", however then I found out that there is a Department of Law in Alaska, run by the Attorney General of Alaska which is similar to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Now, let us assume this was simply a slip of the tongue and focus not on what she said, but rather let's focus on what she was actually saying.
Basically, what she was really saying was;
'If president, she would engage in ethics violations by making it clear to the attorney general that they were to stop investigations of ethics violations.'
This is not just a humorous misstatement.
This is a pattern of misunderstanding regarding what constitutes limited government and abuse of power.
Her actions of abuse date back to her days as mayor and were carried on through her tenure as governor.
The problem is not that she does things that are unethical.
The problem is that she does not believe that her unethical behavior is wrong.

How could Ms Palin understand the concepts of limited government and abuse of power when she has no concept of even rudimentary junior high civics.

The duties of the Vice President are...........?
The function of the Department of Justice (aka AK Dept. of Law) is to..............?
The 1st Amendment guarantees the right to ...............................................?

When you believe you get what you want by lying and manipulation why bother to understand the Constitution of the United States.
01:28 PM on 07/09/2009
She's writing her own laws.
02:34 PM on 07/08/2009
You nailed it :)

Very well stated. Apparently someone is digging through old copies of the Wasilla
Frontiersman (weekly paper) and finding lots of interesting stuff from her early days.
At least one editor lost his job back then trying to wake the townspeople up.
Hopefully this will all get posted. Sorry don't have links right now, but you could

Her problems did not come because the media was against her. Her problems come because every time you stick a microphone in front of her mouth a whole lot of stupid falls out.

Don't steal from Margaret and Helen. Give credit where credit is due.

If the Quitta From Wasilla makes it to the White House.

Todd to Sarah: Sarah there is a lady on the tube talkin' about you!
Sarah: Somebody call the Department of Law!

Piper to Sarah: Mommy, I'm hungry!
Sarah: Somebody call the Department of Vittles!
12:12 PM on 07/11/2009
Can't call the Department of Vittles. Palin fired the Governor's chef.
So she chould bilk Alaskans a per diem for her cooking.

"The Department of Law"?
The truly amazing thing is that there are actually people who would vote for this ignoramus..
04:03 AM on 07/08/2009
She didn't know Africa was a continent or the signatories to NAFTA. She also called Afghanistan, "our neighboring country."

This fits Palin's "thinking."
