Katherine Goldstein: 6 Reasons to Eat Local Food This 4th of July
The farmers markets around the country are bursting with all kinds of delicious fruits and vegetables -- here are six reasons to show your red, white and blue by buying local foods this holiday weekend.
Stephanie Paige Ogburn: James McWilliams' Over-Hyped and Undercooked Anti-Locavore Polemic
The problem with McWilliams' argument is its irrelevance. To devote an entire book to debunking the impulse to eat closer to home doesn't address the points raised by food and farm activists.
Leslie Hatfield: Red, White and Greener: This Fourth, Declare Your Food Independence
Local food is not only a tasty alternative to its over-processed, over-traveled industrially-produced counterparts, but it's also patriotic to support local farmers.
Cynthia Torres: Celebrating Food Independence with Food Democracy
Organizations and activists across the country are calling for America to celebrate their Food Independence this July 4th by making the choice to buy local foods for their holiday feast.

This article is hard to read in the morning, lunchtime can't come soon enough for me now! Local food always tastes better, and it tastes even better when eating it off of compostable plates! This 4th of July we had a cookout with compostable bagasse plates, cups and forks that I found at:
www.greenhome.com
Its an excellent way to be green, yet simple enough and cheap enough for everyone to do it- I mention greenhome specifically because they have the most affordable compostable products I've seen thus far. Keep up the local food movement guys, change begins with the consumer- and huge props to the "Lady Liberty Tart" - where can I order mine?
I'm actually leaving for lunch right now! I'm such a glutton, I loved them all, and will be stopping by a market to purchase plums after work!
