I'd like to say something about the preaching that was done. Some people have questioned why some of it sounded so angry. I didn't see it as angry. I saw it as passionate. Growing up a white Catholic, we didn't see much passion in our sermons (homilies).

A few years ago, I found out that a former classmate of mine, John Boddie, had been ordained as a priest and was pastor of a church in the next county. At our catholic high school, he was one of very few black students. I knew some people who attended his parish (out in the country) and spoke so highly of him that I had to go see for myself.

On seeing John, I was struck by his powerful presence. Then came the homily (sermon). We Catholics like them short and sweet. Occasionally a priest will make a joke and we will laugh just to be polite. Father John Boddie did not necessarily tell the people what they wanted to hear. He told them that Baptism is not something that you prep your kids for and then drop them off at Church so that you can go shopping. Along with that powerful presence came powerful, true words. There is one thing I had never heard in my 30+ years of going to Mass - enthusiastic applause after a homily. I did that day and it was well-deserved.

Father John Boddie died earlier this year at the age of 50 from cancer.

Thisn is all way over the top. You would think we were mourning the death of FDR or something! Trotting out these kids now is reminds me of when Jackson dangled his son over the balcony or when Palin used her retarded son Trig as a prop at the GOP convention. It's just so horrible how we do not protect children anymore in our society.

Are you suggesting that the children should not have attended their father's funeral?

He grew up in the same town as I did. Kenmore NY. Everyone called him Leslie. I think that is his real name. Not positive though.

Wolf Blitzer did WHAT? I didn't have that much respect for the guy as it is but that's a whole new low.

Is he serious? We should ask him if his words were pre-script when his daddy or mother died. What a low life.

Michael was the 7th of 9 kids. I'm sure none of the older kids imagined he'd be the first funeral they'd attend. I have 11 sibs and I'm the oldest. My little brother (the 3rd youngest) died when I was 14. Its really hard to lose a sibling, but one that you practically raised is very hard.

Actually he's the 8th of 10. Marlon's twin brother died hours after birth.

A fitting tribute. A wonderful service.

On the day we laid my great aunt to rest, I know she has good company on her way home.

This is a good day to pause and reflect.

"There wasn't nothing strange about your Daddy, what was strange was what he had to put up with..."

Sure, Al, keep trying to convince yourself.

I don't think Sharpton believes his own words - just crap talking.

Quincy said he doesn't go to any funerals. He said he lost so many people and have been to hundreds of funerals and can't take anymore.
