I Like ItI Don’t Like It

In a tragedy that seems almost straight out of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," a man in Camden, New Jersey has died after falling into a vat of boiling chocolate.

More details from Fox News:

The man had been in the melting pot for about 10 minutes by the time crews arrived, and by the time he was pulled out of the chocolate it was too late. He was declared dead shortly after 11 a.m.

The turnout gear of firefighters at the scene were covered with some chocolate, as were the clothes of an obviously distraught co-worker who was being consoled by an EMT. That co-worker appeared to have gone into the tank in an attempt to rescue the man who had fallen in.

What has to be of concern here is was there violations of workplace safety. Any death on a job is unacceptable if preventable. I would hope and assume that NJ State labor safety, Federal OSHA and insurance company investigators will be involved to to figure out what happened here to reduce the risks of a similar situation for anyone else.

An ancestor of mine fell into a vat of indigo dye. He was blue for the rest of his life. He eventually died of it.

As I recall in the 70's if a man fell into a steel blast furnace they dropped an ingot to bury.

Does that mean they'll drop a chocolate bar for this unfortunate soul?

Ever hear of KARMA, people? Absolutely nothing funny about this. This poor kid was just working, trying to make a living. My condolences to his family.

Yes, some of these posts are disgraceful. We are now in an age when anything can be used for a laugh, even death. And the perpetrators don't even know how sick they are.

Lexia--- The joke is that no one can honestly laugh at death.
How many people do you know in their 90's?
We all have to come to terms with our mortality. That is where religion plays a big role (You tell me what that roll is-good or bad).
Most people who joke are releasing nervous energy or are admitting to their own mortality.
We are all much the same. We all "fear" the unknown in what happens to us ultimately.
Death has been laughed at since the first one happened. Who died first, Adam or Eve?

What is wrong with you people?! This was a human being, who died making chocolate for ALL of us, because we all like chocolate too much. And ya'll can't even be respectful that he was killed.

My condolences goes out to his loved ones, and to his co-workers who had to witness this horrific event. This is so sad.

BTW, does anyone know what brand of chocolate he was making? R.I.P.

Sometimes some people must go to the absurd, when the incident is absurd. You have every right to cry your eyes out for the rest of the month. Others can make light of the situation in their anonymity.
Please don't volunteer to be a censor. They are already working too hard. I don't know if you could endure it. Tough work, that.

If people are looking at this article they either think it's funny or have a morbid interest in this death, so no more hypocritical, self-serving, aghast comments.

Yes, I wondered how this man died and clicked on the link. If you call that morbid interest, fine. That still pales in comparison to the absolute ignorance exhibited in these posts. And I have every right to be aghast.

And to those who say he wasn't boiled - I stand corrected. So you feel it's ok then to try and outdo each other in the tasteless joke dept? Again I ask, what if it had been your husband, son, father?

Wrong on both counts! This happened in an area not too far from me, so it caught my attention. It's a very very poor, violent city, where life is hard enough. But why would you care.

"Death by Chocolate" is one of those great, yummy ideas... until it really happens. Condolences to his family.

I also agree with other posters here, no way was that chocolate boiling... to temper chocolate you raise the temp to 115 for milk chocolate, and not a degree over or you ruin it. And I know from experience. If it were a tempering vat that he fell into, temp would have fluctuated down to 82 then back up to 88 for dipping or molding.
Terrible waste of life and terrible waste of chocolate.
