Macgruber

Variety:

Will Forte's bumbling spy MacGruber is headed for the bigscreen as the latest in a long line of "Saturday Night Live" characters to make that transition.

"SNL's" Kristen Wiig will reprise her Vicki character for the feature. Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillippe are in talks to join the cast.

It will either be really good or really bad.

This crap gets a movie and Martin Short's Ed Grimley didn't?

What's wrong with them?

I like the "MacGruber" sketches because of their sheer ridiculousness, but this ain't gonna work as a film. None of the SNL stuff ever does.

This has got to be one of the worst ideas EVER coming out of Hollywood and/or SNL. The sketch isn't even that funny, now they're going to make a film about it?

This looks like it will be worse than A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, and The Ladies Man combined.

You have got to be kidding. It's barely funny as a 15 second skit.....I cannot even imagine how stupid this is going to be as they attempt to drag it out to feature film length.

Um, clearly someone has money to throw away......please throw some this-a-way!!

The SNL cast must have a videotape of Lorne Michaels in a compromising position. I have no other explanation for why Jimmy Fallon has a show; why Fred Armisen is STILL playing POTUS; or why a skit that is insufferable in 45 second increments is now getting the motion picture treatment. Either that or Mr. Michaels is overdue for retirement.

Awww come on. Will Forte is talented BUT McGruber are the lamest skits. The Falconer is much funnier or he and Kristen Wiig should do a Gilly movie. But McGruber that's a just stupid.

We watch SNL faithfully but I do admit to not laughing at the MacGruber skits..they are not one iota funny.
Now ...Alec Baldwin in a movie about Pete Schweddy ...now that I am sure would be hilarious.

Wow , how many years has it been since Pete was shilling his Schweddy Balls?

Tina Fey as Palin in a movie, now that would have been funny.

I guess Forte doesn't realize doing this project is the end of his acting career...
Remember "Ladies Man"?
Sasha Baron Cohen so far was able to take Borat and return a decent profit. Ali g "Indahouse" was a miss and time will tell with "Bruno" hence his appearance as himself on Letterman.

I'm sure SNL has a formula wherein they can safely predict the return on investment for films based on thier recurring characters.

And we the movie-goers have to endure the insult of having the posters and trailers presented to us. As if to say, "Here. You people will eat anything. Enjoy another serving of lukewarm swill. It's not terribly bad. But we didn't exactly go out of the way to make it terribly good either."

They have plenty of talented performers at their disposal. If they just had the nerve to try something fresh and different, these SNL-based films wouldn't be regarded as little more than Happy Meals.

I don't doubt that the writers and performers on that show could make a great comedy. If only they weren't constrained into making films that are essentially product tie-ins.

Will Ferrell didn't get where he is now because of his work in Night at the Roxbury and Superstar. He took off when he managed to break away (if only a bit) from the SNL mold.

Christopher Guest's work is so darn good, and so removed from the one-note SNL shtick, that it's hard to even think of him as a former cast member.

Sometimes I admire Lorne Michaels for creating such an enduring show and providing a springboard for some great talent. But sometimes I think he's exploiting the natural comedic resources of our country to make stale styrofoam comedy widgets.
