The Washington Independant:

Last night, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) gave a short talk and Q&A at at the National Press Club about his book "Saving Freedom." DeMint told a room of around 100 people about a conversation he'd had with an Iranian immigrant who was panicking about the surge of government spending and control under President Obama and the Democrats.

Cognitive dissonance occurs when someone holds two opposing realities as both true.

Republicans think that their rhetoric reflects divine law. But they also know that 80% of the country has rejected them. To explain the dissonance they create weird explanations, like this one.

Here is reality Mr. DeMint. Republicans turned the war on terror into a neo-con experiment in nation building. Your deregulation and your selling yourselves to lobbyists has caused the worst financial crisis this country has seen since the depression. No one now alive will forget that.

That's not exactly right. For many years, we have been more like the Weimar Republic before the big crash finally came in the Depression. We are not yet in 1933, but more like 1930 or 1931, when the wheels really started to come off. Of course, at the bottom of a depression like that, there will be real Hitler types waiting to come out of the woodwork all over the world, which is definitely something no sane person would want to repeat.

Obama has pulled out allthe stops to prevent the depression from reaching that point. Time will tell if he has succeeded, or if our present-day Weimar Republic is as doomed as its German predecessor.

I'm glad a United States Senator rejected the idea of the violent overthrow of the government of which he is a part. That's big of him.

Ahh so fox news talking about racial purity and the republicans invoking the nazi's as examples.

So they really have become the nazi party and are accepting the fact.

Now why did we fight WWII again? And what did we do to the nazis? Guess we have to rename a town to Nuremberg.

Right Demint?

Ahem.
Not quite.
Right before WWII, Germany had a thriving economy.
Also, they had one party, absolutist rule and no convening parliamentary body.
Socialism and Communism were illegal and party members were subject to summary arrest.
The teaching of anything contrary to Nazi ideas was banned and curbs were already in place to prevent Jews from holding public office.

Now can we please stop comparing our political opponents to the Nazis? If you're just going to argue that those who disagree with you are evil, just call them minions of Satan. It's being true to the thrust of your argument.

I'm trying to think of a way to comment on this article without using the phrase "raving lunatic". But I can't.

Remember, be careful what you wish for, it may come true. I hope you all can live with the change you did wish for.

Is he implying that a true Nazi party must take over from the corrupt socialists? At least then he would be consistent.

And as for that Iranian immigrant, well, she obviously corresponds to the category of those who are born every minute.

It is so juvenile to just blame the opposing side for everything. Both parties release talking points that blame each other for all the problems with America. It is ridiculous. We go back and forth fighting over nothing. Both parties are to blame for almost every problem. The economic collapse can't only be blamed on George Bush. He had a lot to do with it but you can also blame Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac like conservatives like to do. The main problem is that both parties are in the back pockets of Wall Street financiers, special interest lobbyists, and international bankers. Until we realize this these corrupt elitists get to laugh all the way to the bank while our country gets ruined.

Republicans like to say that Obama is ruining the country and he's taking away their freedoms. They have very short memories. I think they just feel bad because their messiah, George W. Bush, drove the country into a ditch and they can't live with that. It pains them to even think that theur guy could be such a monster. While they were concerned with morals and abortion they never bothered to do any type of research on how the Bush administration operated. They have a sort of selective synesthesia. They fail to remember how Bush politicized the justice department, fired attorneys like David Iglesias, outed a C.I.A. officer, began a gestapo like wire tapping program and looted the treasury by giving billions in no-bid contracts to his war profiteering friends and on and on and on.

Sen. DeMint ,your boy,DA Führer is in California and is all pumped up.He's da Austrian Terminator of people in need,of helpless mothers and children,of children's educations, the homeless,of jobs,of their dreams, their colleges, their protection by law enforcement and all public serices.Yes da Führer Arnie is alive and well in Sacramento and leaving his state bankrupt with "no new taxes" just like his Party led By Dubya did in D.C. with an illegal war and the largest deficit in our nations history with a bankrupt country for Obama to repair.Have no fear the da Führer is here like a Republican cancer, pointing fingers, of no new taxes to destroy another state.Freeze oil prices at the pumps People, for all consumers and carriers and tax all imports coming into this country by any means,People. This is your country people not some talking heads that say they are representing you by pointing fingers demand solutions not the finger.Let your voice be heard people.Let Da Republican "no new tax boys are in the deep pockets of oil sheiks", laugh that off ,tax them and use the change to help your family.Let them pay for years of abuses and gouging.Tax excess gouging by pharmecticals and price freezes and controls let them eat that down at the "K" Street Watering Hole.

I don't like corrupt corporatists getting tax breaks either but anytime California does raise taxes it is on everybody. The poor and middle class get taxed too much. I'm all for going after bankers, financiers, and greedy corporations but both parties never seem to go after them. They always ra.pe the little guy. Just raising taxes on the producing Americans is not going to fix the horrible corruption in California. How about stop paying for the millions of illegal aliens living off social programs? That's a good start. They cost the state 9 billion a year.
