I've had host families in Russia and the Ukraine and it is astonishing how every single living room is built to the same floor plan, the same dimensions and has the same china cabinet next to a couch with a plastic covered table in front of it. Good times!

Not just Russia. All the soviet bloc countries had similar structure monstrosities. They really weren't much different from some of the "projects" in this country. Hey, if you've got heat and indoor plumbing, it isn't so bad. The problem was you sometimes had three generations stuffed in to one flat. Imagine living like that.
