Al Franken's been anointed as Minnesota's junior senator, but how did the former "Saturday Night Live" writer win over voters on his way to elected office? With Heavy Changes Ego Spray. Watch this clip from the 1976 movie Tunnel Vision featuring a long-haired, shirtless, semi-six-packed Franken trying to hit on a sunbathing lady. After his pick-up line flops, Franken takes an olfactory tip from an old friend.

Many comics are amazingly accurate social commentators. Al Franken was one of them. His humor was honest, sometimes scathingly so. It went straight to the heart of the American psyche.

Anyone remember his schtick during the "me" days of the 1980's? His "Me, Al Franken" jokes, mocking the self-centeredness of the time?

He is a quick study, thoughtful, and a great political analyst. I know he will do good things for Minnesota.

I remember "Tunnel Vision". It was about the first R rated movie I was allowed to see. Its big calling card was a cameo by Chevy Chase, who was just hitting it big on the first season of SNL.

If the right-wingers wanted damaging stuff on Franken, they should have trotted out clips of the "Franken and Davis Show" that Franken and Tom Davis did for SNL in the late 70s. Their sponsor was "The Communist Party". They had one bit where Franken was dying of brain cancer, and another called the "Stunt Baby" where they threw a life-sized doll of an infant around.
I'm really surpised that stuff didn't surface in the Franken-Coleman campaign.

Doesn't Minnesota already have Michelle Bachmann? But I suppose someone "Proudly Conservative" supports that psychotic.

I suppose I am the only person wondering if all the Right-Wing politicians who are criticizing Senator Franken all have pictures of themselves in the 70's at social gatherings ONLY in their White Shirts, Ties and Sports Coat...army-like hair cuts and horned rim glasses. Or aren't we suppose to wonder about their backgrounds?

We need more comedians, artists, musicians, community organizers, educators, nurses and born-again pagans in Congress. Our country has been brought to its knees lead by the hopelessly entrenched career politicians, the lawyers, the business moguls and the clergy turned layman christian soldier.

So what? Ronald Reagan was a second rate actor, Al Franken was a comedian. I can live with that.

Ah yes, how quickly we forget that Saint Reagan's most famous film role was perhaps "Bedtime for Bonzo" and Bonzo got first billing in that one.

by the way ... Bonzo was a chimpanzee (and personally, I believe he had more talent).

Actually Reagan's best role was in a movie called "Kings Row". It was released in 1942 and he played Drake McHugh.
He always was able to take direction.

Those on the right that treat Ronnie as a saint always fail to mention that he was the president of a union, EEEEKKK!!!! Reagan was a two-time president of the Screen Actors Guild.
