This is appalling!! If Saudi women win the rights that they are indubitably entitled to, does it mean we face the prospect of even more shrouded spectres on the streets of Western Europe?

I bet this story doesn't get much mileage (no pun intended) in the western corporate media as it would open up too many cans of worms relative to a "moderate" Muslim state that is the epitome of democracy and a firm ally of and arms buyer from the United States.

Professor Dr. Stanley Collymore.

For what it's worth.....
I am not a person of authority, but I lived in KSA for a number of years. The answer I got to that question is that the "responsible male" could be a nephew at puberty or the responisiblity could default to the leader of tribe.
BTW.."guest workers" could not travel (even inside the Kingdom) without their employers approval.

Good for you! I think that women should just up and leave every muslim country until the men there change. Who needs honor killings and burquas and permission to travel or even leave the house. Get out of there and see how long the men last without you!

I agree. However, I don't know of a single women's organization that would actively support ak -Huwider's efforts. Maybe the group that Mavis Leno is attached to, but certainly no others.

I just received an appeal from Emily's List made by Bill Clinton. When I stopped laughing, I sent it back with a request to remove my name from their mailing list.

Wajeha doesn't quit! That's great! Rosa Parks didn't quit & we got rid of vicious Jim Crow laws in the USA, & the generation of my grandmothers had to fight to get the right to vote in the USA. Hang in there, Wajeha.

But she could use a little help from the rest of us.

PS. I hope that the next time Michelle Obama visits the Pope, she is wearing a long red dress and red Gucci flats.
