When Air Force One touches down in Ghana on Friday evening, it's sure to be another goosebump moment of the Obama presidency. The rich symbolism in Barack Obama, the son of a Kenyan immigrant, visiting Africa as the President of the United States, and Michelle Obama, the descendent of enslaved Africans, going as the First Lady, holds significant weight for Black people around the world. Why Ghana? Geological surveys carried out show that Ghana has a huge supply of untapped oil reserves the life blood of the US economy and way of life. Bushism without George W. Bush.

Every other US president has made much of his ancestral homeland, whether this has been Ireland, England or Holland; VPs have done the same. Barack chooses oil and the neo-con agenda over Kenya.

I think his actions, in the light of other black related issues from the boycott of the UN Racism Conference to his silence over former congresswoman McKinney, say it all.

If Africa allows itself to be hoodwinked again then the continent deserves what it gets.

Professor Dr. Stanley Collymore.
