Washington Post:

Maziar Bahari is a Newsweek reporter, a documentary filmmaker, a playwright, author, artist and, since June 21, a prisoner being held in Iran without formal charges or access to a lawyer. The Iranian state press has attached Bahari's name to a "confession" made in vague terms and conditional tenses about foreign media influence on the unrest in Iran that followed the declaration of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's reelection on June 12.

We have no right to demand Iran or any other country treat American prisoners any better than we have treated the people we have captured and held in Gitmo or any of the black sights in other countries. That's the cost of torturing people and we will be paying for a very long time.

At first I laughed because I find Mr. Meacham to be a self important and biased wonk but then I thought about this poor person being held prisoner. I am glad he is fighting for his release and I hope the publicity helps not hurts. I still think Meacham is a t00L.

LOL I'm sure they'll get right on that. And right after we free the torture victims in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, it might not sound like such a laughable request.
