Maura Tierney To Have Surgery On Breast Tumor

NEW YORK — Actress Maura Tierney (MOHR'-uh TEER'-nee) says she's having surgery to remove a tumor in her breast.

Tierney, who recently wrapped a long-running stint on the NBC medical drama "ER," issued a statement about the surgery on Monday, giving no details on her condition and when she'd due to have the operation.

Says Tierney: "I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed."

Tierney says her doctors assured her "this is a very treatable condition," and she's "very optimistic as to the outcome."

Tierney's setback has delayed production on her new NBC series "Parenthood" for eight weeks. The network said the medical drama "Mercy" will instead premiere this fall

While she may not read it, I can't imagine anyone in the entertainment field who does not monitor the internet. Not them personally, but staff, publicity people, etc. Stars get enormous amounts of fan mail, especially when they are ill. She won't ever read these posts, but I am sure that she will hear if that there were bloggers on the web wishing her well. I doubt you have ever faced grave illness. At that time, you would gladly take all the well wishes of anyone who cared to say a good word about you. What does it hurt, exactly, for people to send her their best wishes, even if they are just whispers on the mist?
