Midseason Review: First Half Highlights From New York Baseball (SLIDESHOW)

Both the Mets and the Yankees entered the 2009 season with great expectations for this year and beyond. New ballparks went up in Queens and The Bronx to accommodate these two clubs, and the offseason was filled with big name free agent acquisitions for both teams. The Mets got their hands on top closer, Francisco Rodriguez, and the Yankees shelled out hundreds of millions of dollars to bring the likes of CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, and AJ Burnett to the Big Apple.

However, since the season has started the two clubs have gone in very different directions. The Mets are currently in 4th place in the National League East, are the owners of a record well below .500, and may be looking to sell, rather than buy, at the July 31 Trade Deadline.

The Yankees, on the other hand, have been playing like one of the best teams in baseball, and are currently right in the middle of the American League playoff picture.
