Without an ethical foreign policy all you do is attack oppressive states that irritate you while being nice to repressive ones that suck up to you.
No one suggested during Stalin's bloody reign that the west should attack the USSR to bring about regime change, even after it marched into Hungary and Czechoslovakia. It didn't happen when China annexed Tibet, and is one of the reasons that North Korea hasn't been attacked and dialogue is being preferred - because all three likely foes have nuclear weapons and could inflict immense damage on their assailants.
The mindset of posturing bullies.
Professor Dr. Stanley Collymore.
Why is Israel testing their missles in the United States? Also I agree this is the height of hypocrisy for the US and Israel after their condemnation North Korea for their missle tests. If we want others to play by the rules we must also.
We're Israel's only "friend" in the world and they continually use us and our resources, we allow it to happen without holding them to some standards.
If Israel takes a pre-emptive strike on Iran, we will be blamed, and with good reason. These short-sighted people who allow this to continue do not care how much jeopardy it puts us in. 9/11 was entirely due to blowback from our aggressive foreign policy and we refuse to learn from it and continue to attempt to re-make an entire region of the world, while we crumble here at home.
We've truly let ourselves go and aren't doing our jobs by holding our elected officials to higher standards.
what are you going to do about it? what can you do?
Keep calling/writing ye olde congressman and senators, aka my attempts to hold our elected officials to higher standards. Keep signing petitions (as pointless as that may be), contribute to organizations that are taking significant steps.
I don't know if you asked that sneeringly or sincerely, but this government is supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people. Perhaps this country is too far gone for me to make any difference whatsoever, but a group of like-minded anti-war people certainly could.
So why are missile tests by North Korea and Iran condemned by these same countries? Seems to me a classic case of: "Do as I say and NOT as I do!"
Frankly I think North Korea and Iran are perfectly in their right to tell the US and Israel with their hypocritical double standards to "go to hell".
And I'm pleased to see that they're both doing just that.
Professor Dr. Stanley Collymore.
I am not exaclty excited about Israel testing missiles on our missile reanges, but there is precedent. Know where the German Army Air Defense School is? Fort Blliss, TX. The Brits also fly a training Squadron out of somewhere in the Southwest.
The thought that you applaud Iran and North Korea to thumb their noses at us is both incorrect, and troubling. Incorrect because its not us (as in the US) they are thumbing their noses at, its most of the world. And troubling because both of them are Dictatorships, while Israel is not.
Does Israel have policies I view as odious? Absolutely, and we let them get away with it for the most part, and I do not like it.
Though I must say your screen name fits you well. Only an academic, a person who never really has to make the theories they espouse fit the real world, would give kudos to Kim Jong Il and Ahmedinejad for thumbing their noses at THE WORLD. Brilliant.
Confronting hypocrisy is always welcome...whatever the example source.
Israel is the 37th ranked democracy out of the worlds 192 countries. Sure to take a huge fall once the Dec-Jan Gaza thing is factored in.
The difference between Israel and the two countries that you mention is that the Federal Republic of Germany and Great Britain have not recently been accused of war crimes or acts of terror. We are already de facto state sponsors of terror for having armed Israel, now we are acting as a terrorist haven by giving Israel a platform from which to test a potential WMD delivery system. Israel has demonstrated that its people are clearly not responsible enough to own rifles, let alone missiles.
As an American Citizen - I protest this.....I do not believe that Israel should have been given permission of the U.S. Government to do this....next month, it will be Pakistan wanting to test their missiles....or Hammas - or who knows who.....I don't the think the U.S. should allow this, or set a precedent for these kinds of tests by other countries in our U.S. missile ranges...........bad, bad, bad stuff! Let them test their missiles off the Tel Aviv beaches if they want to...............
So they're happy to accept our money and our military assistance.
But when we insist that their settlements are only causing further hatred on both sides and ultimately hindering peace, they accuse us of encouraging another Holocaust.
That is the respect we can expect from the ever powerful hard-right nationalists of Israel: they will spit on us while accepting all the help we are willing to give them - even if they continue to spit on us.
20 percent of any tax paid in the US runs to the military. Not half that is enough to make ALL americans healthy.
And now we even help other war criminals develop better weapons to massacre innocents?
We killed 2 MILLION Iraqis in an illegal war. And we sit and say "but it was right to go there to free them".
WRONG!!!!!
WE gave them Saddam without so much as a shot in their direction but to dispose of him we need to kill 2 Million people and then say we wanted to protect them?
How evil can we become befor the world will rise up to get rid of us?
kick the war criminals out of US now; stop any aid anything till they get out of Palestine. you hear?

why isn't the U.N. condemning these missile tests? Oh yeah, our missiles are good where as Iranian and North Korean misslies are bad!!!! (sarcasm)
Let's see who got the biggest B@LLS !
Iran ... North Korea .... Israel ... USA ... ?
Russia is just LAUGHING at the chest pounding going on among these M0R0Ns ...
God Bless our Alliance-from the days of Israel fighting with France and UK against Soviet backed Egyptians in 1956, Soviet Arab proxy states in 1967, 1973, and the KGB invented PLO until the Evil Empire's death! Israel/America forever!
Hoot!
"God Bless our Alliance-from the days of Israel fighting with France and UK against Soviet backed Egyptians in 1956." You mean the Suez crisis that the US forced Israel, France and the UK to end? Yeah, great job on that.
The Arab League created the PLO, not the KGB. Get your facts straight.
"Israel/America forever!" To the contrary, Israel is no longer as relevant to US goals in the Middle East as it once was. It should learn to follow orders if it wants our 'alliance' to continue. And by following orders, I mean dismantling its settlements in Palestine and respecting the human rights of its neighbors. It's disgusting that our leaders in the US should even have to dictate something that should be so universally accepted.
Ion Pacepa, most famous defector, has admitted Arafat was a creature of the KGB.
Also, Israel IS our goal in the ME, in the war against evil jihad, which would create a global new world caliphate.
