I Like ItI Don’t Like It

It was only a matter of time before Jon Stewart -- an unabashed New York Mets fan -- tackled the puzzling rise and spectacular fall of Lenny Dykstra's career as a financial guru. Dykstra, an ex-Mets star, declared bankruptcy last week, after amassing what seemed to be a staggering fortune, including a California home once owned by Wayne Gretzky.

Stewart showed a clip of some of Dykstra's profanity-laden reactions to his recent financial and legal troubles, and responded with:

"My broker is Lenny Dykstra, and when my broker talks -- you cannot air it on national television."

Stewart, also took a shot at Jim Cramer, who famously championed "Leonard Q. Dykstra" as a world-beating investor. Dykstra actually wrote a regular column for Cramer's TheStreet.com. Here's what Cramer said of Lenny's market prowess:

"This is a guy who is applying the same skills to money as he applied to sports. It's brilliant...Not only is he sophisticated, but he's one of the great ones in this business."

Remember when Cramer vouched for Lenny Dykstra's stock analyzing "talent?"

Cramer is a shill, always has been and always will be. What's that old saying, "Even a broken clock is right twice a day." He needs to find a nice rock to crawl under.

The slugs and scorpions under the rock shouldn't be punished by having Cramer join them. And I have seen Dykstra occasionally on the Saturday morning Fox financial shows (which are also nearly complete jokes now). The man mumbled much as he did in the interview clip with Goldberg. He basically used his celebrity to con people, but unlike Madoff or Stanford, he wasn't smart enough and likely believed he actually knew what he was doing. Sorta like a reverse Ponzi scheme.

Cramer slams jon stewart whenever he can, but Jon just shows us the truth.

Cramer's career ended when with the economic bubble burst.

It would have been nice if Jon could have asked about Barney's former chief of staff going to work as a lobbyist for Goldmann-Sachs.

why is it Stewart continues to play Walter Cronkite when it comes to hammering a useless entertainer like Jim Cramer... yet when Barney Frank was on (earlier this week), Stewart acted like he was a know-nothing schoolgirl and allowed Frank to dodge questions, shift blame and distort the truth, without so much as challenging him, showing damning videos, or using any of his other embarrassing tricks?

does anyone REALLY think Barney Frank's hands are clean with the housing meltdown? and last time i checked, nobody elected Jim Cramer to his position or put him in charge of anything except his own opinion.

i'm certainly no Cramer fan... but the hypocrisy is disgusting and sad.

Perspective eludes you.

1. Frank was brought on to display exactly the opposite if what you think Steward should have done. In allowing his guests to speak it proves one of two things, that they know what they're talking about or not. Stewart doesn't have to question, he lets guests dig their own holes. As in any political arena you have to make your enemies feel welcome, otherwise you'll never get to talk to them again. I don't recall a prior visit by Frank so Stewart didn't go to hard on him to scare him away. Let the relationship develop so that you can get more of the story and in return more material to build up the rebuttal.

2. Jim Cramer is not a politician, but he is also a scammer and Steward exposed his blatant lies and unprecedented bad opinions. Cramer's a puppet and there's nothing wrong with calling that out. People aren't smart, especially when it comes to taking advice from their TV which Cramer relied on to support this sponsors and contributors with suggestive criticism.

Let me ask you this, do you consider cable News anchors to be "useless entertainers" or are they reliable sources of information?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:14 PM on 07/15/2009

Thoughtful response. News Anchors are not entertainers one bit. Nor are folks like Olbermann or O'Reilly News Anchors. And that is what is lost on too many. 24 hr cable news channels have blurred news & opinion; objectivity is a lost art - on both sides.

But let me be very clear. Anybody who tunes into Jim Cramer and takes stock advice from a guy screaming, hitting sound effects and throwing objects at the camera, does so at their own risk. If you buy your medicine via SPAM, your jewelery from QVC or your stock advice from a clown on TV -- you get what you deserve.

Frank, on the other hand, has an implicit duties as an elected leader. In my opinion, he was derelict in his duty on the Financial Services Committee. His job is to lead, inform and protect all of us.

So I just don't agree that it's Stewart's job to expose Cramer... but not an elected "leader" like Barney Frank. Cramer is simply a MUCH safer target. Exposing Frank would rankle the very folks to which he is sucking up, most of whom are young and not able to discern Stewart's faux news from real news.

But as you suggest, maybe this was the first part in an eight part series and on part eight of eight, he finally shows the July 2008 video of him saying Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were fundamentally sound, were solid long-term investments... and the housing market was not

Cramer is a genius! After the cleaning he got from John Stewart the last time, he has managed to continue having a show on mainstream TV. Tucker Carlson wasn't that lucky. I'm with you, Stewart. This guy has given enough bad advice for a few lifetimes.

CNCB is pretty much a corrupt network. Firing Cramer would have made them admit they knew he was a scam artist.

If so, then Cramer is not as bright as I think he is. It is one thing to promote Dykstra in a sound bite. It is another to give him visibility on The Street.com, where Cramer is the biggest shareholder and to allow him to sell paid subscriptions to get advice from Dykstra on options, which is what he did and what took him under.
