Catherine Crabill, VA GOP Candidate: We May Have To "Resort To The Bullet Box" (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 8/16/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Catherine Crabill, the Republican Party's nominee for Virginia's 99th District in the House of Delegates, gave a speech at a recent Tea Party event suggesting that Second Amendment rights could be used to defend the anti-tax movement. The strange assertion was picked up by Virginia political blogger Not Larry Sabato.

"We have the chance to fight this battle at the ballot box before we have to resort to the bullet box," Crabill said. "That's the beauty of our Second Amendment rights ... Our Second Amendment rights were to guard against tyranny."

Watch:

Crabill, who proclaims on her campaign website that "America was founded by right-wing extremists," has already drawn fire for her controversial views. Among other things, she believes the U.S. government played a role in the Oklahoma City Bombing.

"She has stated herself in such immoderate terms that she has made her candidacy almost a caricature," said Westmoreland GOP Chairman Robert Fountain. "Her views will appeal to the faithful, but not to enough people to give us the 51 per cent of the vote we will need to win in November."

UPDATE: Crabill has defended her words in an interview with the Washington Post.

"Those are my convictions," Crabill, 52, said in a telephone interview this morning. "I am a full-blooded, freedom-loving American, and what we're seeing in Washington is domestic terrorism at its worst."

But as a video of some provocative remarks zipped around the Internet, she also worried that she would be caricatured as an extremist. And she said she wanted to make clear that she was not advocating armed resistance.

"I have no desire to see this country erupt in any kind of violent revolution," Crabill said. "I don't even own a gun."

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This video has been provocatively edited.

Part of the speech Catherine Crabill gave included a speech by Patrick Henry, an address in Richmond, March 23, 1775. Someone has edited the video. More info. go to: www.catherinecrabill.com

America is a great country. The Rule of Law is critically important to our present + future. Take time to read the United States Constitution AND the Declaration of Independence - from these documents, from this history it should not seem so outrageous that there may be a need to sound the alarm on a government that has overstepped its boundaries. We as citizens of the United States of America have become way too comfortable, taking for granted the "freedoms" that were won for us. The general populace is TOO busy trying to survive or striving for wealth. There is no one "minding the store". Most elected officals are NOT held accountable by their constituents. Legislation continues to pass by those we placed or allowed into office that WILL affect ALL of us, in our pocket books and our freedoms and futures. However, WE are the ones to blame because we've handed over the reins. It is past time that WE take hold of OUR duty + responsibility as citizens of the United States of America. Involvement in the policies of our local, state and national government are not only for the few - it MUST be the responsibility of ALL of us to be engaged. Please Wake Up!!! This is Catherine

Is there something in the water that repubs drink?

We now have a church in Indiana in which the pastor asks paritioners to carry concealed firearms. Then there's the state law in Tennessee whereby bar patrons can carry concealed firearms. Surely there are other red states that have equally pathetic (amusing?) firearm laws. Which repub. wing nut will come up with something regarding weddings?

POINT OF INFORMATION: This video has been provacatively edited.

The speech Catherine Crabill was reading was Patrick Henry’s address from Richmond, March 23, 1775. The character assassins at Huff Po edited the tape to begin mid sentence where Patrick Henry said, “Our chains are forged! Their clanging may be heard on the plains of Boston. The war is inevitable-and let it come!...”

From that they deliberately tried to insinuate that Catherine Crabill was advocating war!

This type of editing and deliberate provocation is despicable. In the same speech, Patrick Henry said “Besides, sir, we have no election.” The point of my comments was that we do have an election, we do have the ability to take hold of our freedoms with the ballot box so we don’t have to refer to the bullet box as our Founding Fathers did.

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to bear a.rms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in Government.” – Thomas Jefferson

Isn't it always best to seek for the truth from the source? No, it's just easier not to question the source and to take what is fed to you and proceed to comment + rave with your presumptions of the Other. Bravo + kudos to the one who filmed and edited the distortions - you've provided some great publicity. Darkness will always hate the light.

This woman is urging sedition and it is about time that people who do that are held responsible for it. She can vociferously voice her antagonism about government but to then say if they don't get their way at the ballot box, they will use the bullet box is a threat and should not be viewed in any other manner.

Civil War II?

Don't make me laugh so hard; it hurts.

All it would take is one A-10 making a low pass and firing that Gatling gun over the "militia's" head and it would all be over.

The field wouldn't be stained with red; it would be brown.

Do these far righties have any clue how much they embarass themselves?

The NRA is a shill group that pretends to be grassroots. In truth they are out for the well being of the firearm industry.
