IrishCentral:

On a BBC program last night, the superstar U2 singer recalled how he he stiffed President Bush out of the photo op in 2006 at the National Prayer Breakfast. The former President was on the stage with Bush when "Dubya" tried to hug Bono.

"There were all kinds of people in the audience," Bono recalled on Jonathan Ross' talk show.

Bono admitted he didn't feel like being the recipient of a hug from a man with whom he had so many political disagreements. As the affectionate President neared, Bono tried to "dodge the hug" by jumping behind a podium.

Yes, Bush gave money for AIDS drugs in Africa but he also negated important family planning information (out lawed it). Kept information against birth control and abortion that would have helped much of the suffering of the African populous. This is help under a specific Christian agenda that is non secular and lacking in total understanding of the choices involved with HIV prevention. Using abstinence as the soul criteria for prevention of sexually transmitted diseases in Countries where woman's rights are all but non-existence is a fatal flaw based on an inherent disrespect for the Culture of the people you are their to help.

Why would you hug War Criminal? Tell me why? A nice side step is the most efficient way to not embarrass yourself and everyone around you. I call it classy.

Bono take your African president and go back there.

That way you can both laugh at your joke together and away from our country.

Both are classless.

Bono has every right to not like Bush.

But purposely avoiding Bush's hug-- after all Bush has done for him-- was classless.

Then bragging about it on T.V. for all the world to see was more than just classless, it was DOU.CH BAGGERY.

Bono is a DO.UCHE NOZZLE. And that hurts me to say cause I've always been a U2 fan. No longer.

What blows me away is that now this is a news story. I just saw it covered on Wolf Blitzer's show.

too bad gw bush did the opposite for his own country....he destroyed our standing around the globe, he destroyed the economy and DID NOT keep us safe on 9/11, despite numerous warnings.

That's very disrespectful. How sad Bono, I thought you care about people!

I Love GW too now that he's out of office and can't screw things up anymore. After all he's the reason Obama's president and the Repubs are a regional party.

Good work Bono. You avoided picking up a STD with that move. (Stupid Thinking Disease). Since Republicans are always patting each other on the back, they all have it.

Why would anyone want to hug Bush? I do think Bono could have been a bit straightforward and said, "I'm not going to shake your hand. I don't respect you!" I did that once to a car salesman who had stiffed me. Really shocked the hell out of him. This is such a non-story!

He did it all for show. The peopel n New Orleans will second me on that. Trying to save a ruined legacy and really giving a dang about someone is two different things.

Don't blame Bono. He should take the money and run. At least that bit of American money didn't go to Bush's cronies, Haliburton, GE, oil shieks and what have you.

You take a "knighthood" from the "Queen," but shaking Bush's hand, that's where you draw the line?
That's why he calls himself "bono_r."
