Believe it or not getting nude in NY isn't such a hard feat. There are numerous places were one can prance around naked amongst his or her nudist peers. Ever notice that nudist colonies are almost always populated with over-the-hill devotees? By the time people get the nerve to throw care to the wind they are past the time when they should!

That's because for many folks, the older you get, the less you care about what other people might think about your physical "imperfections". Unless someone has grown up in a naturist family, there seems to always be some kind of "baggage" being carried along from different places - religious, social, ethnic, etc. One rarely sees teens at LB because just about all of them are overly concerned about their body image. Moreover, teens tend to run in packs. (We see them all of the time walking down to LB from Robert Moses Field 5 in groups of four or more. Once in a while some of the braver females will take off their bikini tops, and rarely will the males remove what we like to call their "clown pants", otherwise known as board shorts.)

However, not all of us old fogies have beer bellys or hanging flab. Some of us are in top condition as compared to the rest of the US population. The nice thing is that no one makes a big deal of bodily imperfections, and I think that's a good thing. There is way too much focus in the US on the way one IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK, and that leads to anorexia and bulemia in young adults, esp. females.

I can't believe they didn't include Sandy Hook, NJ! It's only a few miles from NYC and actually, on a clear day, you have great views of the Verrazanno Narrows Bridge, Manhattan and Brooklyn. Plus, there ARE actually "cute" naturists at this beach. There are plenty of "old and wrinklies," too. But it's a mix of straight and gay, old and young, men and women. And it's a fun place. The only bad thing is that traffic getting in and out of there is horrible now because of construction.

Well, the operative word here is New Jersey. Even though most NYers (and I guess some Jerseyites) consider Northern Jersey part of NY Metro. it still is NJ. A lot of folks from Manhattan however do frequent Gunnison Beach at Sandy Hook because a ferry leaves from the West Side piers and goes directly there.

I love the photo "Lighthouse Beach of Fire Island". There is some strangely beautiful and classic about it. It would make a great painting. Hats off to the photographer.

Silly me. I always thought that the statue of Liberty was in NY harbor. Little did I know that they moved it to Fire island.

I was showing my 11-year-old goddaughter the main page of the HP, trying to get her interested in following politics. Suddenly she says, "Yuck," and points to a picture of Richard Branson with a naked woman wrapped around him. It ruined the moment in more ways than one. Create a section marked "Soft Porn" and then readers won't HAVE to look at it.
