Woman Performs DIY Plastic Surgery, Suffers The Consequences (VIDEO)

Huffington Post via Good Morning America   First Posted: 08/20/2009 5:12 am Updated: 05/25/2011 1:40 pm

There are some so-called beauty regimens you shouldn't do yourself, and plastic surgery is certainly one of them. Good Morning America interviewed Mary, a woman who bought silicone and syringes online and injected her lips and face in the privacy of her own home. She explained:

"Restolyne...Botox...that's hundreds of dollars every time you want to get it done...you know, how many people can afford that?"

But instead of using medical-grade silicone, Mary used personal lubricant, resulting in her face inflamed with infected silicone and then massive doctor's bills to have it removed.

WATCH as Mary recounts her horror story:

I have to feel sorry for her, and at the same time she is onto something. Why shouldn't we be able to fix ourselves up with the right proceedures written in a guide book- in the privacy of our own homes- and offered the same components to get it done as the doctors receive? Imagine the teeth we could fix if we all knew how to make a good cap and had the right tools and instructions and products? We all can save lives if we know how to stop someone from choking, as an example, and many surgeries can be reversed in time such as this( She just needs to wear lipstick and make up). If we knew how to inject our faces with botox, we would not need such medical bills, should that day come of course. It think she is not as stupid as you think. This is a big lesson. Silicone should be available to anyone capable of using it the right way, and I think they do sell a certain brand for make up, but you have to buy it in bulk. Look at diabetics, they inject themselves to stay alive every day, and so what's wrong with injecting yourself to look young? I do not like needles myself, but someday I predict this stuff is going to be a topical permanent solution.

May I say that I do not recommend this to anyone until it is FDA approved of course. Who on earth would put cooking oil in their face? OMG

If you haven't been professionally trained--whether installing a water heater, putting on a roof, or say, PLASTIC SURGERY, please hire a professional to do it for you. It's never worth the small amount of money saved to become paralyzed or disfigured for life.

And to think she did this to save money. I guess that didn't work so well.

What are people thinking? This is exactly why you let a professional do this stuff. If you can't afford it, live with the wrinkles until you've saved up the money. Good Lord.

Diane Sawyer looks like she had some procedures that did not work out as well.

I don't understand this...
People that have this kind of thing done usually look worse in my opinion.

O.M.G.! Because this lady had a professional botox treatment by her doctor once, she thought she could just by some stuff over the internet for $10 and inject it into her face with the same results! Sure, what the hell does any doctor know anyway? It's easy! They're always the ones trying to con you, not the annonoymous people over the internet. And the story says this woman is supposedly educated and intelligent. Compared to what, an ameoba?

I tried to give myself a root canal with a power drill. I saved tons of money, you should try it too.

You may be interested to know that there is a product that you can use yourself to improve your nose. It's NoseSecret - nose correcting inserts. They improve the nose only while you wear them and they cannot be seen by others. Ciao.

Er Diane, the fact that you are a mum or you have gone to school or have a job doesn't necessarily mean you are smart!

Honestly, I do not have any sympathy for this woman or anyone else like her. Why all this vanity? Why can't people age with grace? To save a pittance she did it by herself. This is not the case of doing some yard work yourself instead of hiring a gardener thus saving a few dollars. Hope this is a lesson well learnt for other DIY folks.

never clip coupons or pinch pennies in anything that requires being ingested, or penetrating the "protective" outer membrane. What a hairbrain.
