Dan Rather Wins Access To Thousands Of Documents In Suit Against CBS

He won access to more than 3,000 documents that his lawyer said were expected to reveal evidence that CBS had tried to influence the outcome of a panel that investigated his much-debated "60 Minutes" report about former President George W. Bush's military record.

Interesting how the story shifted from the substantive issue of Bush's military record to a story about a single document that appeared to be forged, but the substance of which was never disproved. Dan Rather got screwed over and so did the American people when the real story was buried by the media. Both Rather and the public should get justice.

I'm glad the tide has turned for him. Sure, he's not the nicest person but he was railroaded by CBS. CBS wanted him out and this story about bush was their excuse.
Most likely the story was true, because w never served in the military or as US President.

The bush administration put the screws to CBS about this story and CBS caved.
The last time this happened Dan Rather was white house correspondent in the Nixon administration. The Nixon crowd wanted him out, too. But CBS News held fast. And eventually Nixon imploded.
The bush crowd had way to much power in 2005 and CBS ran scared.
I do wish Dan Rather well. Since that point, I've lost all respect for CBS.

I'm not a fan of Rather's after the deceitful things he did to Walter Cronkite behind the scenes. However, I back Rather all the way on this issue. How can everybody in a squadron lie at the same time about Bush's whereabouts during drills? Wealthy, connected fathers got their children into universities and important positions and they never earned it, even after the hand up. This would be called AFFIRMATIVE ACTION if it were a minority.

Dan Rather is a giant of Journalism; the spiritual heir to Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite. People don't remember how during Watergate he dogged Nixon so much that he was taken off the White House beat. He was a tough investigative reporter in his day.

It remains to be seen whether or not he botched the Bush/Military story. They couldn't document sufficiently that it WAS true but no evidence has ever surfaced that it WASN'T either. CBS, however, was all to eager to dump Dan for his consistent third-place ratings. They wanted to usher in the "new breed" of non-journalist "infotainers" and did so with Katie Couric. So they bailed on the Bush story and kicked Rather to the curb.

I just wish Dan had resigned when they killed his story instead of throwing his producer under the bus. That would have been the classy thing to do.

My DW always says Rather was set up. I disagree, but I do think that in the final analysis it will come out that G.W. DID duck out of his last two years of military service. Some f'ing "War President!"

It's been wonderful to see Mr. Rather in his appearances on various MSNBC programs; hopefully, this is a portent of a more permanent presence for him on that network!
