You are kidding, right? Geez, are you afraid of a few square inches of skin? You must have a very low opinion of your common sense if you feel "upset" by somebody wearing something less than a burka... Of course, you might be harboring deep sexual conflicts, with repressed urges and weird drives, but, in this case, you should find a good shrink, and leave normal people live a normal life. In fact, come to think of it, if that's the body we have, why should be afraid of it? Your shrink is your opportunity!

To Mallomel and all the other 'modern, unbiased so-called free-thinkers."
It is not the amount of skin that is the problem, We see more on the beaches.
It's the come-on, supposedly directed to adults. The problem is that thead are
viewed by everyone. That may be one reason young 11, 12 nd 13 yeare olds
are dressing and posing like young whores in a red light district.
And we won't even go into the issue of pregnancy rates among pre-teens.

The problem is that the young in this country are getting screwed up sexually, because the older are screwed up sexually. Also, what you are witnessing is the breakdown of the American family... These kids are raised by adults.

You don't see in Europe all the problems that we have relative to sex, and they have way more explicit sex there than we have here. Why is that? Also, we are way more religious than them, but we have, more divorce, more rape, more pedophilia, more murder, etc, etc. Now why is that?

Sex is not the problem. If it was, Europe would be way more screwed up than us, and we know that is not the case. But that's not going to sway people here from their anti-sex crusading. After all, it's in their Bible.

I'll bet that the majority of those who see nothing wrong with these ads do not have children. And those who do have problems with them are getting tired of explaining to five year olds what a girl kissing a naked man's butt has to do with selling jeans.

And MalloMel, I'd be happy to leave my child at home so they won't be exposed to the ads if you'll be there to babysit them.

No, you do not want me to babysit your kids, because I used to be an Atheist, but recently discovered that I'm a Deist (look it up), and I would be teaching your kids about deism.

See, I'm an Atheist. And my 11-year-old could easily turn you back into one.

You feel compelled to lecture children on religion while babysitting them?

I don't think I'd hire any babysitter that does that, of any faith.

RE KIDS: I have two kids. They understand about human sexuality, passion, lust and love. The billboards show lusty young people, or inspire lust. We have had frank discussions about what people feel, and what they are beginning to feel. My message to them is that its natural, but cannot be allowed to control someones life.
RE SEXUAL IMAGERY: Sexual stimulus makes people stop and look, it's an evolutionary imperative. Danger signals such as violent imagery serve the same purpose and work for the same reasons. Sex and Danger are important aspects of being a viable species. If we wanted to, we could create restriction on advertising so that it would merely reflect the factual data on the product rather than creating an emotional connection to some exciting topic such as sex. But I doubt that there is sufficient energy to thwart the massive capitalistic desires behind the current advertising.
IMHO this kind of imagery doesn't harm society at all, we would be better served by forging some kind of rules regarding blatant lying about real facts that profoundly affect ones ability to effectively participate in a citizen democracy.

Sexual imagery has long been in advertising. Today it's just a lot more explicit.

It's amazing how much we cling to our taboos. No one cares, sex is everywhere, Americans are just as sex-crazed as anyone else, it's human nature, no one is surprised. But for some unfathomable reason we still cling to our taboos and narrow moral outrage. Then we look down our noses at Europeans for simply discard the taboos and live healthy sexual lives. Is is any wonder that sexual perversion and deviance are rampant in America? We desperately need to pull our heads from our bums and evolve.

I have boys, not a girl. But, I'd tell my daughter the same thing I'd tell my sons if one of them came to me and said that s/he aspired to be a model.

I'd tell them to think about it, because eventually a producer will want to exploit you and use your body/appearance to further their objectives.

I'd tell them that for every model who earns six and seven figure salaries, there are hundreds who are doing unrelated work to supplement their income and that they have to take that into consideration.

I would also tell them that I would strictly limit what they do and how they are used until they are 18, at which time they will have to use their own judgment.

i see it as more nuanced than that. i'm pro-sex, pro-sex education is schools, and I don't think being critical of billboards that depict skinny models is prudish. when people say things like "sex sells" to me it's more like "sexism sells", as exemplified by the imbalance of female/male nudity...

What's with Huff's close up of boobs, tattoos on certain body parts , butt shots, porn, etc., lately???

These bill boards are b.s. This is just pornagraphic, not sexy.

The sexiest bill board I ever saw in NYC featured the increasingly lovely Catherine Zeta Jones promoting some movie of hers. It was put up somewhere around that national debt clock. It was just a beautiful picture of her.

I'd have to agree...I mean most of them were pretty tame (the girl coming out of the ocean was pretty non-explicit) but the orgy and some of the other CK ones were ridiculous.

Why are all of the models young and attractive? Why aren't there any over-the-hill types in the pictures? Old people need jobs too. This is agism at its worst! :)

Because old people are NOT sexy and nobody wants to look like them. Anyway, the baby boomers have f**ed up this planet and the generations beneath them. The last thing I want to see on a billboard is a baby boomer. They're already all over TV anyway with their Cialis, their Viagra, their Tena Pants, etc... ENOUGH!

Since the invention of better contraceptive methods society has pushed the boundaries of sexuality. But that doesn't mean that businesses should entice consumers to boost their sales.
