On the giant testicles on the raccoon/badger, it's a traditional Japanese thing--badgers symbols of fertility and always portrayed with large, ambiguous tail/testicles between legs. Many shops have huge statues of these guys in front of them. FYI
funny...
funny stuff.
Did they borrow their music from this band? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2oWWu4jKQE
#6 was the best. Bu, why not make it ten commercials and include the Schwarzenegger one?
The big balls are a classic Japanese thing (tanuki kami) about which they do not have sniggering Western hangups. Between you and me, I think the ads are a lot of fun. Certainly better than the chauvinistic commentary.
Agreed. The huffpo commentary above is borderline racist. "Their culture is different from ours, let's laugh at them!" Pretty effed up, huffpo.
I think i'm turning Japanese, i think i'm turning Japanese, you know i think so.
Reality is very humorous presentation...
Well made points...by putting totally unrelated episodes...
Hey, on number 8 she isn't trying to poop, she's trying to not use a chair in order to burn calories at work! That is why it is a lot of effort to lose weight in that way and only a little effort to lose weight by eating a soyjoy lol. (unless you were being sarcastic and i missed it... lol.... good collection of ads!)
It's only crazy if you don't understand Japanese or the cultural references. Actually, most of their commercials are quite clever!
Number 6 made me LOL. Asian Monty Python.
There's nothing like clever, spell-checked commentary to accompany YouTube links.
And this is nothing like it.
What are you talking about, these ads are GENIUS! I'd buy what they're selling.
The bit in the last ad where the guy from the pop group SMAP says "This is beach" - it's a joke. The word in Japanese for nipple is "chi-ku-bi". SMAP jokingly call it "bi-chi-ku". Which sounds like "beach". Hence one of them (Katori Shingo) saying it while pointing to his left nipple. You... you had to be there.
Ok, Tarako isn't the name of the company. Tarako are fish eggs. They are not selling noodles, but fish egg spaghetti sauce (it's delicious, trust me) Kewpie (as in kewpie doll) is the company, hence the usage of babies.
Nothing at all weird there.
