Kyl To Oppose Sotomayor

Jon Kyl

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Jon Kyl's office says he'll vote against Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor (SOHN'-ya soh-toh-my-YOR'), the latest of his party's conservative leaders to announce he'll oppose President Barack Obama's choice to be the first Hispanic justice.

The Arizonan, the Senate's second-ranking Republican, plans to announce his opposition in a midday speech on the Senate floor. He expressed serious concerns about Sotomayor's writings and rulings during her confirmation hearings last week.

The GOP is deeply divided over Sotomayor, who is expected to win easy confirmation in early August. A handful of Republican moderates have said they'll vote in her favor, and Democrats – who control 60 votes in the Senate – back her solidly.

Hopefully, Arizona's Hispanic population will be enough in 2012 to boot Jon Kyl out. Maybe next year it'll be enough to get rid of Johnny Mac!

All you had to do was to watch Day One introductions to know which way Kyl was voting. No news here.

Hopefully AZ voters will not re-elect Kyl. I know that he never had my vote to begin with and I will gladly help campaign for whoever runs against him!

I think that if Obama would've nominated Jesus Christ, the repubs would've found something wrong, just because Obama nominated Him.

No question about it. They would've.

I am not surprised. This is one of the ugliest men in the Senate and on the committee. He is like the Arizona version of Cornyn from Texas whom I cannot stand and will vote OUT as soon as possible.

so, who cares? in the scheme of things Republican Sen. Jon Kyl is a z/e/r/o/.
01:36 PM on 07/22/2009
Senator Kyl is just using the Senator Obama standard.
If it was good enough for Senator Obama to vote against Roberts and Alito, it certainly good enough to vote against Sotomayor.

Anyone have a problem with that?
