FILE - In this Wednesday, June 24, 2009 file photo, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford tearfully admits to having an affair during a news conference in Columbia, S.C. Sanford, who once criticized other state officials for costly travel, charged the state more than $37,600 for one first-class and four business-class flights overseas since November 2005, expense records show. Other state employees flew in the back of the plane at a fraction of the price, according to the documents. (AP Photo/Mary Ann Chastain, File)

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and his family are heading to Europe for a long-planned family vacation.

Sanford would not say Wednesday exactly where his family will go on the trip. But he says the State Law Enforcement Division knows his plans and he will be in touch with his office daily.

Sanford leaves Thursday and will be back Aug. 5.

The last time he left the country was a secret trip to Argentina to see his mistress in June. He told his staff he was hiking the Appalachian Trail and publicly confessed his yearlong affair when he returned.

The governor says he and his wife, Jenny, had planned the trip to Europe with their four sons for some time. They returned Monday from several days away as they work on their marriage.

Yup. The wife and I are off to someplace in Europe where she got me some kind of spa package. When I return I’ll be, Matilda.

He takes as much vacation as our laziest President, Bush 43. Remember the Republican mantra "all play and no work means Jack's a rich boy".

A state in crisis financially and he has more important issues to deal with. Seems if he wont resign, the people would be better off forcing the hand to remove him. Hes a lame duck being sensured so he must figure, why not. Take the pay, the perks, and screw you all!

I'm imagining my wife or I taking about 10 days off a few weeks ago. Then I tell my employer I need 12 more days in July and August. I thought being a governor of a state was supposed to be hard demanding work especially in a state suffering as much as South Carolina.

Do these politicians realize what ordinary working people have to face when we are working?

Exactly.

He needs to resign ASAP. Then we won't be subjected to stupid articles like this about someone no one wants to hear about ever again. Ever.

Is he following GW Bush's example and taking many vacations. Perhaps he'll send us some toy monkey photos on his cell phone like that agreeable father in the TV commercial. Time for this self-righterous, C Street House roomie (maybe he can find some fancy European churches to pray for forgiveness in), and sometime governor to hit the Holiday Roooooad If we could film this we'd likely see soemthing a whole lot funnier than anything National Lampoon ever dreamed of.

This is unacceptable. Who's doing all the Governor's work while he's gone? Oh yeah, NO ONE, because they're not a GOVERNOR! SC has been so shafted by this conman. He should have already been impeached.

Are you a proud Christian. Christian being the tag line here.

Hes the kind of Christian that the C Street house churns out. Not the kind that most Christians stand for. Remember the King David statement? That came right from the C street plan.

How many vacations does a govenor get per year? He sounds like Bush who took a year's worth of vacation over an eight year period. The govt. does have benefits for some of these public servants, lol.
Why doesn't the good governor just retire, to work out his marriage problems, instead of using the voter's dime and time to do so!

Well, he's a Republican. They don't believe in government, so there's nothing for him to do. They don't believe in taxes, so there's no money for any projects. Well, there's the Stimulus money, but he doesn't believe in that, so spending it on worthwhile programs would only prove Obama is right, no interest in that. South Carolina is a festering crap hole, so why stay there ? They don't need him to lead anything, no one respects him, so he might as well take his boys to Europe, where they might learn that there are other ways to do things, that there actually is culture and art and learning in this world. There is hope for the young, and travel is the best education there is.

If no one respects him why dont they impeach him? Economics are bad enough their apparently or the lack of common sense must be missing.
