The city could eliminate the 50-cent taxi fuel surcharge Friday, ABC 7 reports.

The surcharge is added when gas prices top $2.70 per gallon. It's removed when prices fall below that mark for seven consecutive business days. If that occurs, the surcharge will be removed at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

Officials encourage riders who encounter any drivers still charging the fee after Friday to call 311.
