I hate to be picky, but howling is an instinct in wolves. He's triggering it, not teaching it. That said, it's probably a nice bonding for the both of them, so what the hey.
I taught my pet crow to fly... No one believes me though. I put it on my arm and quickly dropped my arm so the crow would use it's wings to steady itself. It quickly figured out to use its wings to fly! I guess it isn't teaching so much as encouraging instinct to take over.
Certainly got the attention of my cats.
My cat twitched an ear but that's about it. She's probably too used to me clicking on all the cute animal videos by now.
