Gordon Liddy Struggles Embarrassingly To Defend Birther Conspiracy (VIDEO)

Watergate conspirator and conservative radio host G. Gordon Liddy went on Hardball Thursday afternoon to address the inexplicably still-debated question over whether or not President Barack Obama was born in the United States.

The exchange was, at times, excruciating to watch as a largely catatonic Liddy struggled to explain the slew of evidence that points to Obama's U.S. citizenship. At one point, Matthews showed Liddy a certificate of live birth, which he noted was sufficient enough documentation to get a passport issued by the State Department.

"Let me see it, if you would. It's interesting that it's redacted," Liddy said, pointing to a sequence of numbers in the upper right hand corner.

Matthews then produced a copy that wasn't redacted. "What do you think now?" he asked.

There wasn't much to think about. Liddy went through the normal litany of "birther" conspiracy points, including a "sworn statement" from Obama's step-grandmother that she saw him born in Mombasa, Kenya. But for the one-time Nixon hand and current hawker of Rosland Capital gold coins, it was a painful segment at best, with Matthews sitting back and letting Liddy trip all over himself.

This reminds me, literally, of when I worked in a State Hospital and tried to communicate even the most simple ideas to clinically insane individuals. They simply could not be reasoned with. They were certain that aliens were communicating to them through the television, or that they were able to read minds, that they were vampires...or whatever. At least those people had an excuse for their crazy.

I joined Huffington Post today, for the specific purpose of ringing in on this story... I cannot believe that this foolishness has picked up so much traction. I had to provide documents proving my American Citizenship (Certificate of LIve Birth), for the purpose of obtaining my Federal DoD/EBI (Extended Background Investigation) Security Clearance. I am reasonably sure that Pres. Barack Obama has a Federal Security Clearance as well, for which he would not have been granted / cleared without Complete Proof of his American Citizenship.

In my lifetime of 42 years I provided the same credential proving my US Citizenship (The Certificate of Live Birth) , for the purpose of obtaining my U.S. Passport as well as my VISA/FM-3 provided by the Ustados Unidos de Mexico.

I just cannot believe that this story has any legs at all...??

I believe you when you say you had to provide your "Certificate of Live birth'. Another term for such is "long-form birth certificate", which has name of the hospital you were born in (or left blank if at home etc), and name of thedoctor or midwife that delivered you.

Obama, by contrast did NOT produce his long form birth certificate... but instead a digitally created CertificatION of Live Birth, also known as a "short form", which does not have name of hospital or physician.

In 1961, in Hawaii, there were four ways to obtain a birth certificate, a long form, for a baby. If we were to see his, we would then know from it which way he obtained one at birth.

More importantly, is the Constitutional question 'What is a "natural born citizen"? This term is not legally defined.

However. The US Supreme Court has stated what the term means in cases: Minor vs Happersett, ( see Chief Justice Waite's remarks), Us vs. Wonk Kim Ark (see Chief Justice Mellville Fuller's remarks).

it is the Constitutional question which must be definitively and legally answered.

Having researched the Constitutional question for eight months, I am confident that I know the answer.

Liddy's argument about the "faking" the birth announcement in the Hawaiian newspaper was so that little Barack would have the privileges of being an American citizen. I'm in Poland, happen to know, from recent experience of my firm's president, that there is no problem having the child of an American citizen born abroad registered as an American citizen.
I suppose if you want to make sure that your baby is eligible to be elected President of the U.S. in the future, THEN you should make sure the baby is born on U.S. territory or else do the necessary faking, so the wording of the Constitution won't be a problem.
Hard to believe that an African university student on scholarship, and an American girl from Kansas, also a student, the daughter of a not-doing-well insurance salesman and a minor bank official would take the trip to the father's homeland for his birth.
I've heard that the statement by the step-grandmother Sarah was an interview, NOT a "deposition", that she quickly corrected herself, but that self-correction is left out of the recording being passed around. And reading Obama's "Dreams from My Father" it's pretty clear she was never in Mombasa, only in the distant village Allego taking care of Obama's grandfather.
I'm amazed at the evidence of hatred in people fastening onto this issue.

It's more than sad-it's frightening. Liddy is more than just a criminal-he is a certificable nutcase. Even Nixon thought so. Liddy openly admired Nazi propaganda techniques and didn't even pretend to respect the rule of law. When Liddy's behavior became publicly known I was appalled that this man not only participated in our government but did so at the highest levels. And it sickens me to think that the Republicans would even consider letting him do so again-on any level.
Read his autobiography and it will leave no doubt in your mind about this man's insanity

Another thing I love about these birthers is that they want clear, irrefutable proof beyond a shadow of a doubt that Obama is a U.S. citizen, but look at the kinds of things they cite as their own evidence:

Liddy here says that Obama's step-grandmother (of all people) gave a "sworn statement" that she witnessed him being born in Kenya. Okay, where is this "sworn statement" and who has it? Who took this statement to even begin with? And seriously, is the woman (if she even exists) of sound mind? For all I know, she's 90 years old, witnessed dozens of births in her lifetime and wouldn't know her step-grandson from the next child.

On another website I read someone give this as "clear evidence" of a forgery of Obama's Hawaiian birth certificate: The certificate lists his father's race as "African." But in the 1960's *every* American (apparently without a single exception among hundreds of millions of people) referred to blacks as "Negros." THIS was his evidence of a forgery.

Just incredible. I think they all need to climb back up on the roof and add another layer of tin foil on their hats to enhance the signal. All that's coming through now is static.

The birthers are focused on the unseen long form 1961 CertifiCATE of Live Birth, and the seen green short form 2007 issued CertificaTION of Live Birth.

The Constitutional issue is the true matter which must be legally addressed.

Barack Obama Sr was British, and the British Nationality Act of 1948 governed his status and that of his children. (See FactCheck DOTorg re: Kenyan citizenship)

And as Obama II has admitted he was a dual citizen at birth, the Constitutional question is: How does british law govern the birth status of an American "natural born citizen?"

Is Obama II , born in the United States, a "citizen" as described in US vs Wong Kim Ark, (son of a foreigner); or is he a "natural born child of a citizen"?

The birth certificate issue.. is a conspiracy theory and/or a cover up.

The natural born citizen issue... is a Constitutional matter.
