What's Your Reaction?

Marian Robinson, the nation's Grandmother-in-Chief, has opened up recently about what her life is like at the White House. Despite Ms. Robinson's initial reluctance at moving into the White House, she has adjusted nicely and calls her new life "wonderful."

Ms. Robinson talked about Sasha and Malia growing up and noted, with a smile and to much chuckling, that the Obama girls "are at the age now where they would rather read books or play games with themselves so Grandma is beginning to feel left out."

Does she has to worry her medicare will be repealed because of Obama's health care plan? I think not. She will always have a cadillac health care plan.

What a gracious elegant lady and always so well groomed appropriately and you can just the feel love she has for her grandaughters. She's a great role model and having fun on top of it all. I think she's absolutely great. The Obamas and the nation has much to be proud of in this great lady.

Ok….let’s be honest now, if President Bush invited former President Bush and First lady Barbra Bush to move back into the White house, would this still be a AHHHHHH moment……….NOT, besides it couldn’t cost more than a couple hundred thousand for the lady to live there, in some places I would see where someone could file a complaint, but here it’s just another good feeling moment by Obama. (LOL)

Let's be honest now... That is a really ignorant comment. And actually the Bush twins could have used some oversight. Honestly!

Honestly, you have got to get over yourselves. Bushies just have to view everything in light of the Bush Administration. Really! I got an email from you guys complaining about the secret services the first family gets. FYI, All first families get secret service protection, just in case Republicans don't know this, Then, I got an extended email titled "Test your sense of fair play Bush vs Obama" with a series of Obama faux paus asking me to "be fair" if Bush had done this, would I just pass it off. It was all petty stuff. The point is, the Obama family is in the White House, they will stay there for 4 years (hopefully 8) and they are not Bush, don't pretend to be Bush and you should simply accept them for who they are without comparing them or our reaction to them in terms of Bush. Bush is gone and we are in a rebuilding mode. Check your attitude and add something to the world instead of crying over the past.

If only.... perhaps if Bush Sr. and Barbara were living in the White House, they would have smacked some sense into W...

Whatever faults Bush Sr. may have had, he was infinitely better President than W.

Woman does not need manfriend or otherwise to be happy and fulfilled. I look at all my single friends and myself an cav attest to this fact wholeheartedly. There are other things in life besides men and sex believe me. Been there done that and much happier today and fulfilled. Now men friends can be nice but friends only which can be beneficial to both sides and fulfilling as well.

First Grandma worked in a bank b4 she quit to help out with the Obama girls so she is not really a beggar.
Both Michelle and Barrack are trained lawyers who had well paying jobs b4 O became Potus. Barrack wrote books that brot in extra $$$. Even if O did not become Potus, they could definitely afford to travel to any part of the world and bring their nieces and cousins along. And it would be safer for them anyway without having to worry about haters.

Ms. Robinson, I think “feeling left out” is a natural part of the cycle of being a grandmother. But don’t worry; it is just one small part of the cycle. Things will come full circle. Let me explain:

When I was really young my grandmother would play board games with me.
Then at age 10, she hand-sewed a lot of clothes for my dolls.
At age12, I suddenly felt embarrassed being around her and didn’t want to spend time with her.
At age 16, my grandmother needed help with house cleaning and grocery shopping, which I gladly did for her.

At age 25, I suddenly wanted to know about her background. (My grandmother grew up in a small Russian village, lived thru World War 2 and then immigrated to the United States.)

At age 26, I decided to major in Russian in college and of course, wanted to practice speaking with my grandmother. (I’m sure I drove her nuts. She probably wanted to get away from me!)

At age 30, I moved far away and could not help her liked I used to.
She passed away several years later.

I loved my grandmother and I am so grateful that she was a part of my life. I just hit that one road bump at age 12 but from that point on I thought my grandmother was totally cool!

Ms. Robinson, you are a wonderful grandmother. Malia and Sasha are very fortunate to have you in their lives!

What a very touching story about your grandmother.
To have a caring grandmother, or grandfather, to take care of us is a blessing.

I'm sure the Obama's DON"T need your advice on raising their daughters. You probably don't even have children. Everyone is a critic. Stop being a hater and be happy for them and their family.

awesome.
kids need grandparents
too many grow up with hardly any contact
she is so lucky to be closer to them
and they are so lucky to have her there
no, they don't seem to need her as much, but they know she is there if they need her and she knows that she can see them when she needs to as well.

warms the heart
also, on the subject of health care, grandmas are healthier when they have lots of love and contact with their family, so....they are doing their part to keep health care costs down :)

Marian Robinson is a wonderful woman inside and out. Strong and beautiful, as are her children. I'm so glad that she's there to be a stabilizing force, not only for the kids, but also for Barack and Michelle, aka the President and First Lady. She is a straight shooter who tells it like it is, and a loving family anchor. (I only wish Mr. Robinson could have been alive to see this. He'd be so proud of them all).

I also wanted to mention again that in some cultures "Granny" may be an acceptable reference for the grandmother, but of the older black women that I've met, most (especially ones this jazzy) would probably prefer being referred to as "grandma" rather than "granny." (She IS black gold, but there's no Texas tea, if you get my drift). :-)

I know that no dis.respect was intended, but "First Grandma" might be more preferable in this case. It's a small thing -- and admittedly MY personal preference -- but I just thought I'd mention it.

This woman seems OK but since I really know nothing about her I can't honestly say more than that. I'm interested in how you know she is "wonderful...inside and out," that she is a "straight shooter," and that she "black gold?" The woman is seen rarely and speaks out even more rarely. I just find it interesting how so many act like they are personal friends of this family. It comes across as disingenuous.

I get our sentiment. I really do. But identifying and personalizing leaders is as old as the City-State. Only a very very small percentage of the people who cried at Kennedy's loss knew him personally, even fewer had a "genuine" relationship. But the tears were genuine. And if we are to have a powerful leader that can lead the country in difficult times and down rough paths, I prefer that power come from the politics of affection than the politics of intimidation.
That's the way the system works. I have had emotions and tears watching fictional movie characters. Many, however, don't have the insight to recognize it's a projection. So be it. And, for what it's worth, I do feel good about the values and demeanor of this family

I think you could say ALL of those compliments about Mrs. Robinson because everyone describes her (her family and close friends) in those glowing terms. She obviously has always put her family first. The proof is the two IVY LEAGUE educated, productive, accomplished and successful children she produced. I'm sorry that you do not read more and is therefore so uninformed about Mrs. Robinson. My suggestion: read, become informed and then make the decision the rest of us have- Mrs. Robinson is ALL that and more.
