Resolution Proclaiming Hawaii Obama's Birthplace Passes House Unanimously

Obama

First Posted: 8/27/09 Updated: 5/25/11

UPDATE 8:07PM: Salon is reporting that the resolution passed the House unanimously.

Rep. Michele Bachmann had blocked a vote on the resolution due to the absence of a quorum but voted for the resolution in the end.

UPDATE:

Think Progress reports that Rep. Neil Abercrombie's resolution proclaiming Hawaii as President Obama's birthplace was blocked by Rep. Michele Bachmann this afternoon on the floor of the House:

Just as the presiding chair of the House, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), was about to declare the resolution passed by voice vote, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) stood and objected:

BACHMANN: Mr. Speaker? I object to the vote on the grounds that a quorum is not present and make a point of order that a quorum is not present. [...]

REP. ELIJAH CUMMINGS (D-MD): Further procedings on this motion will be postponed.

The House of Representatives is poised to consider legislation that will flush out any Obama "birther" conspiracy theorists in Congress.

Rep. Neil Abercrombie, (D-Hawaii), has introduced a resolution "Recognizing and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the entry of Hawaii into the Union as the 50th State." It's one of the typical non-controversial obligatory matters that so often show up on the congressional agenda.

Only in this case, the implications of the resolution are much further reaching. That's because, as part of the 456-word resolution, Abercrombie is including the following line: "Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii..."

In no short order, H.R. 593 has become what one Democratic operative described as the "counter-birther" bill.

The legislation was in the works well before the current wave of hysteria from unhinged Obama-haters who maintain that, despite abundant evidence to the contrary, the president was not actually born in the United States and is not an American citizen.

Abercrombie is hoping to have it passed by the House before August recess because the real date of Hawaii statehood -- August 21 -- occurs while Congress is on break.

As for including the line about Obama, Abercrombie spokesman Dave Helfert told the Huffington Post: "OK. So it happens to mention that the 44th President of the United States was born there on August 4, 1961. Should we ignore that.... I mean what are you going to do, not mention the fact that the 44th president was born in your state?"

HERE IS THE RESOLUTION
:

Recognizing and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the entry of Hawaii into the Union as the 50th State.

Whereas August 21, 2009, marks the 50th Anniversary of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's signing of Proclamation 3309, which admitted Hawaii into the Union in compliance with the Hawaii Admission Act, enacted by the United States Congress on March 18, 1959;

Whereas Hawaii is `a place like no other, with a people like no other' and bridges the mainland United States to the Asia-Pacific region;

Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii;

Whereas Hawaii has contributed to the diversity of Congress in electing the first Native Hawaiian member of Congress, Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana`ole, the first Asian-American member, Hiram Fong, the first woman of color, Patsy T. Mink, and the first Native Hawaiian to serve in the Senate, Daniel Kahikina Akaka;

Whereas Hawaii is an example to the rest of the world of unity and positive race relations;

Whereas Pearl Harbor is a strategic military base for the U.S. in the Pacific and also a historical site for the Nation, being the location of the December 7, 1941, surprise Japanese aerial attack that thrust the Nation into World War II;

Whereas Hawaii is home to 1/4 of the endangered species in the United States;

Whereas Hawaii has 8 national parks, which preserve volcanoes, complex ecosystems, a Hansen's disease colony, and other sites of historical and cultural significance;

Whereas Kilauea ranks among the most active volcanoes on Earth;

Whereas President Bush nominated the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage Centre for consideration to the World Heritage List;

Whereas Hawaii has produced musical legends ranging from traditional favorites such as Alfred Apaka, Don Ho, and Genoa Keawe, to Hawaii renaissance performers such as Eddie Kamae, Raymond Kane, Gabby Pahinui, Israel Kamakawiwo`ole, the Brothers Cazimero, and the Beamer Brothers, and continuing on to contemporary stars such as Keali`i Reichel, Ledward Kaapana, Jake Shimabukuro, and Raiatea Helm;

Whereas Hawaii is culturally rich, as the Hawaiian culture has been protected through Hawaiian language immersion schools, hula competitions such as the Merrie Monarch Festival, canoeing voyages undertaken by vessels like the Hokule`a, and the continuing historic preservation of Hawaiian traditions;

Whereas the Hawaii Statehood Commission has held a Joint Session of the Hawaii State Legislature in honor of statehood and will be celebrating this milestone with a public discussion and with the arrival of the USS Hawaii; and

Whereas for all of these reasons Hawaii is a truly unique State: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives recognizes and celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the entry of Hawaii into the Union as the 50th State.

Resolution Proclaiming Hawaii Obama's Birthplace?

This is very curious issue it seems Democrat’s in the House need to pass resolution 593 on where obama was born. WHY, do the House Democrats need to pass a similar resolution for my place of birth or any other Americans’ place of birth?

Why, the Supreme Court refuse to hear the case because it would cause a Constitutional Crises?

Why,? the State of Hawaii refuse to show the legal certified long form of obamas birth certificate?

Why, the most powerful African born man in world history doesn't obama just order the State of Hawaii to release to the public the long form birth certificate?

The answer; obama was not born in Hawaii unless he some how could have been born in Hawaii when (according to immigration records) his mother was in Kenya!

Maybe this is why obama wants health care reform, to change our understanding of how human births take place, we may forget a child can not be born if the mother is not there! How really stupid must we be to believe the smoke and mirrors when the answer is so easy. Show the Long form Certified Birth Certificate from the State of Hawaii. They can't because obama (like the rest of us) came into this world by way of his mother who was in Kenya at the time.

"Me thinks the lady protests too much”, in this case, "Me thinks the Democrat's, liberals, etc protest (try to cover up) too much.

For the House or the Senate to be wasting two seconds on anything even remotely related to this
" birther ' movement shows you that these guys aren't serious about getting anything accomplished.

Move on for Christ sake

They were already recognizing the state of Hawaii.

For good or bad, it's the kind of thing they do a lot. This time they added a line about the president (though they shouldn't have needed to).

There are a few other whereases that should be added to Congressman Abercrombie’s H. Res 593, the Hawai’i Statehood Resolution, passed yesterday on July 27, 2009.

Although this might evoke an anti-birther resolution, there is something entirely different going on in Hawaii. Sentiment is so strong that the Statehood Commission has already come out and stated that it is not "celebrating" statehood. It is "commemorating" statehood.

Hey, I feel real good now.

We finally got a bipartisan resolution passed without a single vote against it. Obama promised that he would bring these parties together and now he's finally done it. How 'bout a beer ya'll?

I'm sooooooooooooo happpppppppppppy!!!!!

Aren't ya'll????

Can't calim credit for this one. This is way to funny...

There has been a lot of focus lately on allegations that the president was not born in America. I mean, just look at his name; does that sound like the name of someone born in America? Still, the House passed a resolution yesterday 378 to 0 saying obama was born in Hawaii (and that’s considered America?) and officials in Hawaii have come out again saying they have seen his original birth certificate (though I’m not sure we should trust Hawaiians).

Of course, IMAO a while ago found obama’s real birth certificate, and he is quite obviously not eligible to be president. In fact, he’s probably more ineligible than the average person who isn’t eligible. Still, I plan to let this go. It would seem kinda wienery of us to make a big deal out of this when we did steal the last two elections.

I've voted Democrat almost my entire voting life and I'm saddened and shocked at some of the comments here. If Mr Obama isn't Constitutionally eligible, he isn't eligible. I'm not willing to sacrifice my US Constitution for one man who may or may not have lied about where he was born. How about just asking for the truth rather than calling people nut jobs. This isn't a party issue, it's an American issue. It's so simple. All he has to do is prove it. Just like I had to on my last interview. I supplied my birth certificate. I didn't spend almost a million dollars on lawyers to block it and I didn't create an executive order that Freedom of information doesn't apply to me. How about stopping the name calling and stand up for America and your Constitution. Every single violation of it gets us that closer to shredding it. This is a black and white issue. And all this will go away if he just shows it and stops this nonsense.

Geez ... he has proven it. He has posted it. It's been validated numerous times by bipartisan people. He did not spend millions to block it ... no court would hear the arguments because they were frivolous. The Republican governor, who campaigned for Bush and McCain, validated the certificates AT the Hawaii Dept of Health. His mother was an American citizen. I live in Hawaii; my children were born in Hawaii - the Certificate of Live Birth is ALL we can get. Get over it. Use another excuse to disavow his presidency. Aloha.
08:26 PM on 07/28/2009
There are numerous copies of his birth certificate out there, Hawaii has them on record, it has been shown repeated on tv. People are NUT JOBS, there is no way around it. They can't get past the fact that he is a Black man and he is the President, that is the ONLY ISSUE, imo. Him showing his birth certificate wouldn't appease anyone, they would just say he made it up so why not make them do their homework. If you think for one minute the Republicans didn't eyeball that birth certifcate from top to bottom to make sure it was legit, you are mistaken. Even McCains camp said they looked at his brith certificate when they first started running. And even after this "passing" people still won't be satisfied, just sit back and watch.

And this ends it. States have the right to determine citizenship of there state according to the Constitution. Whoever is a natual born citzen of a state of the US is a natual born citzen of the US so therefore..

Whereas the state of Hawaii has determined the Barrack Obama is a natural born citizen of its state. Whereas the state of Hawaii was duly admitted to the Union of the United States. Whereas states has the right to determine who are natural born citizens of their state. It is now resolved that Barrack Obama is a natural born citizen of United States. Bottom Line Full stop birthers your argument is finished by instrument of the laws of the United States.

Maybe it won't stop the crazies outside of Congress, but it's a smack down to the members of Congress who wanted a resolution requiring a birth certificate.

Although I'm all in favor of this resolution, it won't do one dam.n thing to dissuade any of the crazies from believing what they believe. It's best to just ignore folks like that. Let them talk their crazy talk while they fade further and further into the backdrop.

A new category should be added to the Wonders of the World lists which would include people such as Sylvia Bachmann and those who believe that a man even can run for the office of POTUS unless he or she was born in this country. How it should be phrased would be up to those compiling the list but somewhere the words deluded and mindless should come into play.
