people.com:

John Travolta's faith in Scientology remains firm.

A July 25 report in Britain's Daily Mail newspaper claiming that Travolta, 55, had grown disenchanted with his longtime religion in the wake of his son Jett's death in January is "totally false," his rep Paul Bloch tells PEOPLE.

He couldn't leave even if he wanted to. They have him. Hook, line and sinker.

The Church of Scientology exists to fortify the denial of homosexual men.

he's not the first person to choose "god" first family second....Tony Dungy barely cried when his son hung his self..it was all about "God" from the minute he opened his mouth....

Did Tony Dungy's faith in God cause his son to hang himself??? "Gods Plan" is a rational for an event, not a cause of it. Johns belief that you could hook someone up to an e-meter and pay for a purif course and it would get them well may have killed his son. There is a difference no???

Scientology is not about GOD. It is not a religion.

that is not fair assessment of tony dungy. dungy is a christian and does not believe in withholding medical care because of his faith. he and his wife were unaware of the mental situation his child was going through as his son was away at college. there are also questions of whether it was a suicide. the dungy family is terrific and you are in no place to judge them.

This is so sad as his son ultimately died because of John's belief. With all the money in the world he could have gotten his son the best doctors and yet because Scientology said NO he let his son die

I feel horrible for John Travolta's loss. Losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to a human being. I believe that John Travolta honestly thought he was doing the best by his child.

I can't help but think that Scientology played a part in his child's death. If you've ever read anything about Kawasaki Syndrome, which the Travoltas claimed Jett had, you would know that it was a lie. The child had autism or some other psychological issue that Scientology doesn't acknowledge. According to Scientologists, any "mental imblance" can be cured through exercise, diet and vitamins.

My neighbors had a son who got involved with Scientology in the early 90s. Their son not only was a member, but also did accounting work for the Church of Scientology. A few days after he told his parents he was planning to leave Scientology and come home to them, he died in a fire in his apartment. The police were not able to determine the cause of the fire. You might say it's speculation, but there are too many similar accounts of bad things happening to people who left Scientology.

This is why I have trouble faulting John Travolta, even though one could place blame on him. I blame the Church of Scientology and the grip it has on people.

Addendum: (I'm not saying Scientology is prayer-based, just that it doesn't recognize illnesses, thereby not allowing them to be treated.)

Same with all prayer-healing religions. It was very sad to see a news program (20/20 or the like) about faith-healing congregations, how they get together and pray, pray, pray for little Timmy to get well. Of course, little Timmy dies. A father was being interviewed at his son's gravesite, and saying how he didn't realize how he had been taken in until after his son had already died. He had so much faith that his religion of choice would help lives, not take it.

What you label the belief (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Scientology, etc.) is not important if it serves a useful purpose. The important thing is that it is personal. Can you imagine the ignorance in a world where everyone is forced to believe in a way that is dictated by a few? If not, look at the Middle East for an example.

Scientology would not work for me anymore than would evangelical "Christianity." I feel blessed to live in a country where I am allowed to practice my faith my way, and I respect the right of others to do the same.

As for the Travoltas, they are a loving family whose faith is working well for them. They have suffered a great loss and are working through it. They embrace family and keep out of the tabloids. In this day and age, that speaks volumes. If it is Scientology that is doing this for them, then score one for Scientology!

I'm amused at the people who mock the crazy beliefs of Scientology, but still apparently have no problem believing in heaven/hell, angels, demons, resurrections, talking snakes and a burning bush.

Yea, but I'm not forced to give a huge percentage of my earning to my church.

The church wouldn't put everything you ever told in confession on the internet if you stopped showing up or stopped paying your tithes.

The church will not stop providing you access to their religion if you do not pay tithes.

Nor will they force you into indentured servitude if you can not pay them, and if you wish to pay them you are as to pay 10% not milked out of every cent you heave.

Those who try to compare religion to this money scam are doing no one any favors.

Scientology is just as much of a religion as any of the more well known religions. It's a cult based on pure faith and blind belief in supernatural stories.

Maybe, and maybe not. It's impossible to say something like that for certain. The man lost his child. I'm not going to kick him when he's down.
