Delwyn Young On Pittsburgh Pirates Makes Unbelievable Catch (VIDEO)

Two Pittsburgh Pirates combined for an unbelievable catch during their recent game against the San Francisco Giants. As Bombastic Sports describes it:

The Giants Randy Winn hit a fly ball that avoided Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen's glove and instead ricocheted off his foot. Second baseman Delwyn Young dived and snatched the errant ball out of the air with his bare hand before it could hit the turf.

I was at that game (Monday night – 7/27). the play was ruled a hit, which allowed the runner at 3rd to score, giving the Giants a 4 to 0 lead at the time. Randy Winn was thrown out at 1st in the play. It looked from the stands that the umpire called him out on the catch but apparently he called the ball down. I am not sure why Winn was in the position he was to allow the second baseman to throw him out. He either might have thought the umpire called him out, or the second baseman’s reaction was too quick. Either way, it was a crazy play in a game with some lousy fielding by the Pirates. Tim Lincecum had 15 strike outs that game.

Of course they are. I saw one just this afternoon - line drive off the pitchers right kneecap, ricochet off the batting helmet of the base runner sprinting to third, diving grab (reaching back across his body) by the shortstop, who immediately doubled off the runner at second.
Happens at least once an inning.

What are you talking about? This was Delwyn Young, who will now be the regular second baseman. The previous one, Freddy Sanchez, was traded to these same Giants. The other person involved, centerfielder Andrew McCutcheon, will stay in CF for the Pirates for years.

Cricket is one of the most popular sports in the world. More people play and watch cricket than baseball for example. In India and Pakistan their players are national heroes and some are millionaires.

They can play a match for five days and still not get a result. The other week England played out a draw and the batsmen were treated as heroes-Magic. That is how you get your monies worth.

I always love the "This is news" crowd. They read the headline, they know what they are going to see, they watch it, then they say "This is news?" There are hundreds of stories on here from serious world politics to what Michelle Obama's shoes looked like. Choose the ones you want and let others choose the ones they want. The "This is news?" thing is old, played out, and does not make sense.
