The Beers Obama, Gates, Crowley Will Drink At The White House

Huffingtion Post   First Posted: 08/29/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:45 PM ET

Bud Light

President Obama is due to get together tomorrow night with Henry Louis Gates and Sgt. James Crowley for their much-anticipated beers and reconciliation meeting at the White House. And so one, naturally, is curious to know: What brand of beer is it that goes down best with diplomacy?

According to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, who was, of course, asked about what they'd be drinking while traveling on Air Force One Wednesday, the drink orders are basically in place:

The President will drink Bud Light. As I understand it -- I have not heard this, I've read this, so I'll just repeat what I've read, that Professor Gates said he liked Red Stripe, and I believe Sergeant Crowley mentioned to the President that he liked Blue Moon. So we'll have the gamut covered tomorrow afternoon. I think we're still thinking, weather permitting, the picnic table out back.

"With so many issues facing our country today, it is a shame that President Obama has to take time out of his day to meet for “happy hour” with Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates and police Sergeant James Crowley. It is a shame that racial tension still exists in this country to the extent that it has fueled such major controversy in recent weeks. Racism is an issue we should all be concerned with. What beer Barack Obama drinks, however, is not."

Robert Gibbs had to answer a question about the beer summit at today's press briefing:

Budweiser not be owned by americans but it provides a lot of jobs in america. It will always be an american beer to me. I am sure all the people that work for anheiser busch in the us do not appreciate it being put down by fox and friends, or any body else.

Both Crowley and Gates will surely be comped a few cases of their choices. And that will make both feel a bit better. Free beer tastes best!

And then fox and friends said he couldn't drink coors because that is republican beer

According to fox and friends they are drinking fancy foreign beer. I would like to see them go south and say that budweiser is not an american beer. now they are saying the president is not american because he drinks fancy foreign beer. Just like the spicy mustard incident.

Budweiser probably paid him off.

he probably doesn't drink beer and he knew the name budweiser.

No way. I agree he probably doesn't drink much beer, but there's no way they picked Bud without careful deliberation.

Jebus, free beer at the White House and they all order up crap beer? And Obama, the man we trust with the destiny of this country, drinks Bud Lite? That stuff is only marginally better than horse urine with vinegar.

I hope the president and his friends enjoy their toxic, addictive, violence-inducing, inebriating DRUG, even as tens of thousands of their fellow Americans languish in prison cells or suffer with criminal convictions because they chose to "kick back and reconcile" using less dangerous substances.

Prohibition is hypocrisy and hypocrisy stinks.

Gates likes Red Stripe. That's a real man there. Crowley likes Blue Moon, a fruity beer usually served with an orange in it. Now how did two Massachusetts guys end up not drinking Samuel Adams?

True Massachusetts guys used to drink Narragansent or Ballentine when it was brewed.

I KNEW SOMETHING WOULD BE COMING ABOUT THE BRANDS OF BEER THEY WERE PLANNING TO HAVE, IE.,...... (AMERICAN MADE, ETC.) ! So, to put a lid on all of that nonsense, ................

I suggest that Michelle just pull out a couple of lemons, and a bag of sugar, add about a gallon of water, and they all drink LEMON-AID !

CAN'T GET ANYMORE AMERICAN-MADE THEN THAT ! (Smile) !!!!!
01:48 PM on 07/30/2009
but where are the lemons from and where is the sugar from? Did they come from america? Could be fancy foreign lemons or fancy foreign sugar.

I just hope the have plenty of security and limit the number of beers. I don't know if drinking and reconcilation go well together. But I would have a Miller Light, if I had to drink beer.

If you had to drink beer, you'd have to drink something other than Miller Light.

Budweiser is owned by a Brazilian-Belgian conglomerate know as Anheiser-Busch In-Bev. It would be nice if the President and his new drinking buds could quaff some brews from local, smaller breweries that are American owned. Hint: Yeungling, Dogfish, Saranac, Shiner's, even Sam Adams. At least, those listed would have some flavor. As my son says, "Why would anyone want to drink water enhanced with beer flavoring?"
