Todd Purdum: Obama, Crowley, Gates Should Drink Same Beer

Todd Purdum

Vanity Fair:

This strikes me as terrible idea, a sign of all that is wrong with America, and a metaphor for all the distance that still divides Harvard professors from Cambridge policemen, black from white: Each guy is drinking his own special brew, just as he likes it, without thinking about what the other guy likes, or about whether it mightn't be better for all to sip from a common cup. Isn't that the point of fellowship? Isn't that what believers do at Communion?

No! Drinking the same beers have nothing to do with. The point of this country is to bring people from different backgrounds and who have different views on things together, not make them all like the same thing. But rather have them respect the other person's choice of beverage and opinion..

Who gives a flying f@%k?

And if they HAD all drunk the same beer, we'd see someone howling about Obama forcing the poor policeman to drink HIS beer instead of what he really wanted.

Jon Stewart's coverage was the best I've seen.

It the White House for god sake chance are whatever you order they got! A funny drinking game for the President would be to try ordering something so obscure the waiter would have to admit that they don't have it.

A Colbert imitation..... a BAD one.

Common purpose does not mean losing your individual preference, especially
something as minor as a type of beer.

Actually Gates reportedly had a Sam Adams lite. Satisfied?

He must be being facitious, as it is our diversity and multi-culturism that makes us so dynamic and exciting. Sure, there are times when these differences can collide, but then again, when those collison occur, we can grab that energy and make it work for us!! I love this country and I really LOVE BEER.

You have to wonder what Purdum has been drinking or smoking before he gave the interview

Sir, this is America and we still have freedom of choice. At least when it comes to beers.

Freedom's just another word . . .

Actually he had a good point -- they should have just have poured Yuengling a real USA beer made and bottled in Pottsville, PA. But I am glad that whatever they were drinking they all seemed to be getting along. That is the main thing about any gathering. I think this was a great idea and I hope that the professor and the policeman come away feeling better about each other. Just can't imagine why anyone would be wearing a jacket in this heat though -- White House or not.

Yes that is the main thing. But for a "real American" (yuck sounds like Palin) beer you need a cooler filled with Pabst Blue Ribbon. Then they'd stand in the rose garden and toss horse shoes. Cause that's America. ;-)

American mass-produced beers... ptui. It's a shame the Prez didn't have a microbrew.

The article wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I was having uncharitable thoughts about Todd Purdum, and I'm glad I didn't express them.
