Beer Summit

The Daily Beast:

After all the hype for Thursday's White House Beer Summit the cheesy countdown clocks in the corner of the screen on CNN and MSNBC, the often silly panel discussions on all the outlets, CNN's arguably insane segment featuring a crazed schematic of the Rose Garden get-together as though it were Second Battle of Fallujah the actual event was a letdown.

If the media would drop the 24-hour news (ha ha) cycle, they wouldn't have to sensationalize everything into the ground. Sensationalize, rinse, repeat...gets old after a while.

I've re-kindled my relationship with my TV control box's channel selector button.
Next,......

This heading only reconfirms, as if that were necessary, that absolutely everything the media deals with in this culture is presented as entertainment.

And rated as such...

I liked how Crowley and Gates were in suits and the President and Vice-President were in shirts.

With all the cable news hype, I'm surprised we didn't see some silly story headline like:

"Gates had a DARK-colored beer, Crowley had a LIGHT-colored beer. Are they racists..?"
[film at eleven]

It was all hype long before the beer summit. Our MSM keeps us occupied with BS while America burns. I believe, the Romans did the same thing.

Letdown isn't the word - it was a total bomb.

Teachable Moment? Well at least hopefully Obama learned that the next time he hypes racism, he should at least try serving some REAL food to his guests at the ensuing Kumbaya session.

Or maybe Crowley learned that he should think the next time he decides he wants to abuse power and act "stoopidly".

Funny how easily the media types fail to mention how Bush 41 was critical of the LAPD cops involved in the Rodney King beating. He said they looked like the criminals who should be locked up. And he said it prior to the trial and there wasn't one peep of criticism. Oh my...

MSNBC actually had a countdown clock on the screen.

It was nothing BUT cable news hype - and Obama said as much an hour before the meeting.
Slow news days will do that.

Exactly, our MSM is trying hard to bring Obama down under the guise of news.

To call this a Beer Summit is false advertising: Anyone who loves the taste of a real beer will tell you that Bud Light (and its progenitor Bud) is nothing like real beer; it is thin, sour and unpalatable. Luckily for beer-loving Americans, Budweiser is no longer an American-owned company.

It wasn't meant to live up to the hype because it wasn't meant to be hyped by the White House. The media twiddling its thumbs hyped it. Talking heads in comfortable studios hyped, talked, and ran their mouths at full speed about guys getting together for a beer. Guess what? That happens everyday around the world.

The real story in all this was the scuffle between Sgt. Crowley and Professor Gates and the lingering racial divide.

We need less entertainment from news networks and more hard meaningful news.

What the news media doesn't get is that this whole thing could have blown up into a huge race riot with the police under siege in their own stations.(Rodney King ring a bell? ). Obama defused this by getting involved. Thats what a good President does!

I respectfully disagree and like to think we are past the stage of dealing with racial tensions by rioting. The Rodney King matter was different. It was brutal, bloody and stirred far more anger than the Gates/Crowley incident because the LAPD was very hard on minorities, harder than the Cambridge Police. Even if Professor Gates was beaten, I don't believe riots would have ensued. But I could be wrong.

The 60s were marked by riots but the those were different times and the issues cut more into the fabric of our society. Some of those riots were caused by MKL's unfortunate assassination. That was the decade of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Incidents involving racial issues in recent years have been dealt with civility and that's how MLK wanted it. Civil disobedience was his hallmark for improving race relations, not violence.
