Obama

Less than half of Republicans believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America, a new public opinion poll finds.

Only 42 percent of Republican respondents in a Research 2000 survey, conducted for the liberal website Daily Kos, said they thought Obama was a natural born citizen; 28 percent said they did not believe Obama was born in the United States; 30 percent said they were not sure.

The responses, which were gathered after several prominent conservative media personalities fed suspicion that Obama was unconstitutionally holding office, show the extent to which the conspiracy has taken hold in the GOP.

That only a plurality of Republicans were willing to acknowledge the president was born in America is nothing short of astounding, considering the preponderance of evidence that confirms his Hawaiian birth.

The conspiracy has a regional flavor. Overall, even including Democrats and independents, only 47 percent of respondents in the South said they believed Obama was born in America, with 23 percent saying he was not and 30 percent saying they were unsure. In the Northeast and Midwest, the percentage of respondents who believe Obama was born in the U.S. was over 90 percent.

Ninety-three percent of Democrats say the president was born in the United States, as do 83 percent of independents.

The Research 2000 findings were pulled together from a survey of 2,400 adults.

Let's take a poll...How many Democrats think Republicans are of this earth. You will probably get a similarly hyperbolic and (somewhat) sarcastic result.

Wow, how thick can you get? So, they think the Hawaiian newspaper announcements of his birth were put there fraudulently because his mom knew he would one day be running for Prez?

Proves almost half of the Republicans are members of the fringe group.
Where are the intelligent dignified members like Congressman Romney? The Republicans have discarded their standards which we supported in the past for the lunatic finge groups just because the noise they make seems like a large voting block. Ask McCain if they can elect a major candidate.

It's not a matter of a birth certificate.....That question has been answered completely....over and over....

They refuse to accept that.....

Why?

Anyone have an answer?...other than they are racial bigots.....and don't want a black man.....even a half black man in the White House.

What other possible answer could it be?

im sure you have some just blatent ra cists in that crowd sure(48%), but im guessing a majority are politically inclined people who dont understand why he doesnt produce a signed birth cert...he has shown a cert of live birth from hawaii, which they will give to foriegn born persons. All he has to do to stop this "nonsense" is show a signed birth cert, dated and stamped and it will all go away....we're waiting

Just a few facts:
1) a Certificate of Live Birth is issued in instead of the Certificate of Birth, which is entered in a Register (Book) of Births; presenting the Certificate of Birth would entail removing a page from the book. Some Registry Offices issue a Certified Copy of the Birth Certificate, which is a (photo) copy of the corresponding entry in the Register of Births, with the required Certifications and authentications of signatures.

2) The reason why it is called a Certificate of LIVE Birth is, that ALL births, including stillbirths
are (or at least are legally required to be) registered. In those (rare) instances where there is a need for a certification of the fact that a child was born dead, a Certificate of Stillbirth is issued.

3) The issuance of Certificates of Live Births is limited to persons born alive within a U.S. Jurisdiction, regardless of the national origin of either or both of the parents.

4) Anyone born within a U.S. Jurisdintion is automatically a U.S. Citizen by birth.

5) The only entity that can issue a Certificate of Live Birth is an entity of the Jurisdiction within which the birth took place and is registered as having taken place. Therefore, no U.S. Registry can issue
a Certificate of Birth (live or still) to anyone not born within a U.S. Jurisdiction.

I realize this must be utterly complicated for you and your Republican fanatics, but "them's the facts"

As a follow-up to my previous posting, some additional facts:
A child born from two U.S. Citizens within a U.S. Jurisdiction is a U.S. Citizen by birth
A child born within a U.S. Jurisdiction is a U.S. Citizen by birth, regardless of the Citizenship of either or both of the parents.
A child born of parents of which one is a U.S. Citizen and the other is not, is entitled to U.S., Citizenship regardless of where the birth took place; such U.S. Citizenship is not automatic - it must be claimed by the U.S. parent on behalf of the child, or by the child once he/she reaches adulthood.

Perhaps all those ignoranuses out there should live with the reality that there will be an African-American family living in the White House for the next 4, possibly 8 years, whether they like it or not.

They fact that President Obama was born in Hawaii - a U.S. State - makes him a U.S. Citizen by birth.
The fact that he lived in Indonesia as a child, and had an Indonesian stepfather does not change his Citizenship.
(This is response to another wacko this morning on WOR radio (NY) who claimed that the Pres,
"lost" his citizenship by attending school in Indonesia, because Indonesia required that all schoolchildren be Indonesian citizens). Small detail: the school in question happened to be a Catholic private school, run by the Franciscans.
How pathetic.

Who really care what republicans think??? After all its their party along with the Bush & Cheney entourage that got us in this huge stinking mess. Republicans are an endangered species. The best they have to offer is Palin, Stanford et al.

An Acrostic Poem to the 44th. Presaident, born in the great USA, on his 48th Birthday

Happy Birthday Mr. President

How can I say, Happy Birthday?
And how can I in a day, his troubles allay?
Paupers like me never get to see
People like he, with such pedigree
Yes we can was his cry, but how can I
Bring happiness to a President, how ever hard I try
I’ve seen the joy one man can bring
Realized that if you believe, you can do anything
The audacity of hope is within my reach
He taught me to believe and then each
Dream can be made into a reality
And so I’ll believe and with audacity
Yes I can give the President what I desire
May this day be as my dream, and as I require
Real happiness amidst his busy schedule
Peace from the haters, backstabbers, and all things cruel
Resolve of the problems of immediacy
Enemies no longer a threat to our country
Soft answers to carry away people’s rage
Integrity to know the time to turn a new page
Devoted colleagues that will always have your back
Economy, Health Care and Immigration put back on track
Nothing can stop my dreams and my earnest pray
To wish President Barack Obama a Happy Birthday!

Please be more specific when making comments. The proper context is: of all persons INTERVIEWED fewer then one half of those who still identify themselves as (or admit to being) republicans believe that Obama is a native citizen. This just points out the republican party has collapsed to only those nut cases who have lost contact with reality. We should not worry, we should celebrate that the country is no longer as stupid as Karl Rove thinks it is.
