The Vineyard just strikes me as a rather bland choice for a President keenly aware of symbolism. Maybe that's the point, to take a trip so boring the family actually gets some peace and quiet.

But there will be plenty of time for that in 2017.

Hmmm . . . you do realize, don't you, that even if they had a stay-cation, they would still be in luxury . . . with a big ol' Wh ite House, servants, chefs, a pool, fine dining . . .

My question: How does their staying at home or even abandoning a vacation altogether benefit YOU? It is pure sp!te and jea1ousy to begrudge someone simply because you don't /can't have it yourself. Grow up.

I hope they get some privacy. Everyone deserves a relaxing vacation away from the cameras. It would be nice for them to have time to just be a family away from the media. Plus I want to see NO pictures of Michelle in a swimsuit.

She's a clother, a member of a small, angry unhinged group of nutbags who insist, against all the evidence, that Michelle's clothes are awful, she is an embarrassment as first lady and Americans are ashamed of her.

They dismiss her skyhigh approval ratings, accolades by designers and the fashion industry and multiple appearances best dressed lists as a hoax orchestrated by the Obama administration.

He will love the Vineyard and they will be safe there from those frothing mobs that seem to be running wild right now. If he wants a little music, maybe Carly Simon can give one of her Vineyard concerts. I also bet they are going there for Chelsea Clinton's wedding (which is pretty hush, hush right now). Good fresh air for the kids and lots of space to just hang out.

How arrogant as to think that because you elect a person that YOUR VOTE gives you the RIGHT to tell them where they can eat, sleep and what they can wear. This idiotic thinking is the reason George was able to literally DESTROY the diplomacy of the US around the world as well as our economy. The press concentrates on the WRONG THINGS.

The fact that Obama is POTUS doesn't negate the fact that he is also a husband and father. His vacations nor the time spent with his family are not interfering with his JOB. So get a life and worry a litle less about Obama's personal life and more about what you personally can do to be a better citizen.

My thoughts exactly. Funny how everyone sees fit to weigh in and pass judgements on where THIS First Family goes, how they get there, who they take with them, how long they stay, what they 'should' spend, etc., etc.

I don't recall that happening with any past President (simply because it didn't), and I don't see anyone on the Joe and Jill Biden thread in an uproar asking, "How much of my tax dollars are paying for their vacation?" (at least not yet). But with the Obamas, the uproar was immediate and v!c!ous.

The Obamas and Bidens ought to be given space and privacy to make their personal decisions, but the double standard in how they are treated is worth noting.

You also don't see any uproar about Congressmen jetting off to Israel or Turkey on taxpayer dollar and undermining the administration while they're there.

No matter where Pres Obama goes on vacation he will be taken to task for it. It goes with the territory.
