the more they crack down the faster their demise. That's how shah came down. Maybe not today or tomorrow but they have cut their own throats by suppressing people

What the election results show, even if they are only semi-accurate, is a profound fracture in Iranian society. Bastard he might be, but it is also clear that, whether he actually won or not, Ahmadinejad has sincere support of a large part of the population. Sadly, this is just the sort of rift that tends to lead to the very nastiest civil wars (think USA, Spain, Nigeria/Biafra, Sri Lanka)
Also, on the subject of the goon squads. A couple of Iranians work in my department, and they mentioned to me that many of the goons they had seen in video of the protests could be heard speaking arabic. Imports from Iraq or Hezbollah?

LOL. You really think Iranians love to be oppressed, don't you??

I'm an Iranian and I don't need those who are clueless about Iran to prescribe our future.

B@stard.

Didn't some of the 1979 hostages recognize this guy as one of the perps? I'm sure I read that when Ahma was first "elected".

Iran at the Crossroads of History" is a recent HuffPost by the first president of Iran after the 1979 revolution:

"The regime's own cadres oppose Ahmadinejad, and the deepening economic crisis has both deprived the regime of resources and spurred further public discontent. This has provided an opening in which the Iranian people can determine the outcome of the struggle.

If the Iranian people cease resisting, times will become even harder; if they continue, their uprising will be transformed into a full-fledged revolution. This would make the establishment of democracy a real possibility. All indications now point to the Iranians' determination to see this uprising through."

Tomorrow is the anniversary of Dr. Bakhtiar's murder. A man who spent a total of six years in Shah's jails and was banned for ten years from leaving the country, yet in 1979 he had the foresight to see the religious dictatorship that was looming and all the tragedies that it would result. If only we had more politicians like him back then who had his courage and foresight.

As he always finished his speeches 'Iran will never die'
