GOP Leader Blasts Charlie Crist For Skipping Funeral To Fundraise

St. Petersburg Times:

Gov. Charlie Crist attended the Tuesday memorial for Sen. Jim King in Tallahassee, but by then, it was almost too late for some of the former Republican senate president's close friends. Crist was a no-show at King's Jacksonville funeral over the weekend. Crist was in Aspen Colorado, where he attended a fundraiser for his already-well-funded U.S. Senate campaign. (Crist said he also had a family engagement, but didn't elaborate.)

Missing a funeral for fundraising is nothing -- Charlie Crist has been a silent, absentee, do-nothing governor in matters of governance in the midst of one of the worst economic crises to hit Florida. How come Jim King's had nothing to say about that?

What hypocrisy! Jim King was the loudest and most intelligent voice in Tallahassee against the worst of the GOP arrogance and silliness under Bush. Now the party harangues Crist from their imaginary high ground. King would find that amusing.

Understand, most Floridians have NOT seen Charlie Crist near them since he got elected governnor. And he has been especially not seen since the mortgage crisis devasted many areas of the state. It's as if he doesn't want to be associated or photographed with any of Florida's profound troubles right now. No doubt that's to keep him clean for his climb up the political ladder. And the country will be continuously told how 'popular' he is in the state--when the fact is, he's pretty much invisible.

Now the bizarre part of this was that he was fundraising in Colorado for his Florida Senate campaign. Wouldn't you think that a person should fundraise in his home state? Or does this really say something about the entire system and who really buys these seats in our Congress?

Crist isn't a horrible Governor. He acts more like a democrat than a republican on a number of issues, and is certainly what I would consider to be a moderate. In any case, given his opponent last election, Floridians weren't left with much of a choice.
