Blue Heron Farm PHOTOS, VIDEO: See The Obamas' Martha's Vineyard Retreat

Huffington Post via Plum TV   First Posted: 09/06/2009 5:12 am Updated: 05/25/2011 1:45 pm

Plum TV will be closely tracking the Obama family's visit to Martha's Vineyard, and below you'll find never-before-seen footage of the first family's other white house: the Blue Heron Farm in Chilmark on Tisbury Great Pond.

Blue Heron Farm is owned by William and Molly VanDevender (who are Republicans!) of Mississippi. The property is close to 30 acres and consists of main house, guest house, boat house, horse barn and pasture land, golf green, and pool.

See more of Plum TV's coverage of the Obamas' vacation.

Let's see here. This administration like FDR has a strong dislike for the rich and private businesses, feeling they need to be taxed more in order to redistribute the wealth. So what has happened is that the rich have gone into hiding, much like they did in the late 30s, not wishing to draw attention to themselves fearing even higher taxes. So I believe it was in 1938 or so that FDR realized that the rich, which btw included himself, came in very handy with those perks and also was much needed to get the US out of the depression. At some point, the war on the rich and the private business sector will need to be called to an end by this administration as well.

Meanwhile why not enjoy what the rich have to offer, yes? It isn't hypocritical to bash them for their love of beautiful things, and then choose to vacation there with all the snobs that got rich taking down our economy?

I am not sure that the American public would expect the president to vacation in a frugal manner. They may want to see that he takes expensive upscale vacations to lift the spirits of the country.

I had thought he should be frugal in his vacations going to stricken areas but perhapes that might actually depress people and make them worry more about the economic situation.

Perhapes it is better that he indulge in a lavish vacation. After all Americans are optomistic and gloomy presidents do not do well. Carter wanted us to focus on energy conservation etc but he was bounced by Reagan with his cheerful message. Although I believe we should have listened to Carter, Morning in America prevailed.

It's good to see POTUS taking a break from bankrupting the country.

I love Marthas Vineyard, and Blue Heron is my clan, plus I am enchanted with the Obamas. This is the perfect story for me.

Just think for a moment if SC had a Democratic Governor and Senators our President might be vacationing there on a large plantation.

If SC had a Democratic governor and senators, it would be called "North Carolina."

A house with gables (green or otherwise) is always a winner...for those of us who are LOYALISTs at heart.
This retreat is something reminiscent of the spirit of the TOM Cruise movie, "Far and AWAY"
A place where Obama can sit back and perhaps, rightfully, take a minute to hum the TOM Petty tune, "It's Good To Be King"...
Finally away from "All the King's Men", finally in peace on the 'lunatic FRINGE' (TOM Cochrane)...on the edge of the turmoil...
he can kick back in his VALLEY of comfort to relax

ALONE.

Lucky.

What, the Taj Mahal was booked for the week?

The Obamas continue to show insensitivity to the suffering of the American people. I think this may be contributing to our POTUS' falling approval ratings.

This is something our POTUS, and Americans, can ill afford at this time.

I believe they will have a good time if the media prying eyes let them be for awhile.

Enjoy yourself, Mr. President and family.

Enjoy!

If he paid for the mansion, fine with me!

If I paid for it with tax bucks, we have a problem. In that case he could go to Camp David or a friend's guest house...

were you this concerned about taxpayers' money when W. took two years worth of vacations and when Cheney went on numerous hunting excursions?

LOL!!! The old "he did it, mom" defense. Always an intelligent argument (for a 3 year old).

To answer your question, yes.

I have to laugh when I read all the posters here who think only $50,000 per week vacation spots are "safe" enough for the FF. How easy it is for the rich to fool all the suckers out there! I'm so happy that elite Americans can vacation in perfect "safety" while the rest of us are trying to figure out how to make the house payment, put food on the table and save a few bucks to take our kids to less "safe" vacation spots.

people with more money can always afford better vacations than those with less money - so what's your beef buddy ?

I hope they have a great time, this family deserves it!

btw...Earned privilege is just a tad different than unearned or dishonestly earned privilege.
